Hammerite Smooth Green on Calipers

Featured Replies

Hi,

Read quite a few reports that seem to contradict each other, some people say Hamerite Smooth is good on Calipers other say it isn't.

Does anyone of here have much experience of it??

If so do you have any pictures of results after it has been done for a while?

Know Smooth Green has been discontinued but can still get hold of the odd tin or two. Ive heard it's a close match to the Skoda Green is that right?

Cheers

I did my rear calipers about a year ago and it's held up absolutely fine. That was a spray can, not the tin of paint, but it seems to have done the job so I wouldn't worry about it

Hi

I did the calipers on my mk2 octy vrs with smooth green and even after last winter they were like new every time they were washed  .

Great stuff.

Regards Whoosh

Never heard of anyone having problems with it? It's a great product and will last ages. Just make sure you prep the surface properly, so that it sticks properly.

I bush painted my 312 front brakes over a year ago and they clean up pristine with some wheel cleaner sprayed on

Thanks for the replies chap's.

Received my new Calipers etc. through the post today, all I've got to do is work out the best way to clean and prep them ready to be painted.

Got some Brake Cleaner, Wire Wool, and Sandpaper so all I need is a bit of elbow grease now I imagine... lol

You can get it on ebay and it is a perfect match and long lasting. The original paint started chipping and when i complained they said it is cosmetic . One tin lasts for ages, just dont lend to willskoda , because he will knock tin over and give back with 2/3rds spilt! :giggle:

That is very good advice! :dull:

I'll keep that in mind!!!! :D

I have a full tin Alan

You can have it!!

As regards preparation:

Use some Pre Cleaner from Halfords. This completely degreases the surface ready for the paint.

I found that 2 coats was plenty but I used a brush on my previous car....Honda Civic (Gold Smooth Hammerite)

Spraying might be different

Cheers Chris.

I'm also going to brush paint them as can't get the right color in a spray.

Any one know were I can find a 250ml tin of smooth green paint ??

  • 1 year later...

I see this is a old post so I will refresh it. I am also trying to find this paint in green. I prefer the tin but I cant even find the spray on the web. Anyone know where to get this?

I bought a tin of smooth green hammerite here a few weeks back, I have since painted my calipers and it's a great match. I have way over half a tin left so plenty for another 3 or 4 more cars worth of painting.

Pm me if anyone wants it, make me an offer I could get it posted this Saturday morning if anyone wants it

I remember that sale post. I just missed the sale :(

My front callipers are just peeling in a few places. Would I be able to touch them up while they are on the car or is it really necessary to remove them? Might seem a daft question but I am not very mechanically minded. Cheers Joe

Rick. Did you find any paint in the end?

Looking for some too

get yourself some Signal Green Brake Caliper Paint 125ml off ebay and use that

As long as you're repainting all 4 calipers then it will look great on the car, very original looking
