WMV to DVD?

Featured Replies

Anyone know a good program to deal with putting a WMV format file onto/into DVD format?

I tried using Roxio DVD Builder but it told me that the video bitrate was not compatible with the DVD format (currently it stands at 1.9Mbps)

So, what converters would you go for, as I still want to use the Roxio app. for it's nice menu screen themes I can use on the disc.

(Unless you have a better suggestion)

Ulead do a programme that is much better at converting a range of video file formats to DVD and VCD than Roxio. Even as a general CD-burning programme Roxio is outclassed by Nero.

I had loads of trouble with WMV files and ended up using VirtualDub (1.3.c I think as WMV/ASF support was dropped in later versions  ) to convert it to an avi and then used TMPGEnc to convert to DVD format. www.dvdrhelp.com has loads of info on :D

I have a little solid state camcorder which records as wmv. Neither Roxio or Nero can create VCDs or DVDs from the files but the camera came with a copied of Ulead Video something or other that can, and also can transform the files into somthing that Nero can handle.

William,

as I've already got the Roxio software here at work, and it's only once in a blue moon i do this sort of thing, why spend money on the Ulead software?

I've set Adobe Premiere working on it, but that's currently reporting a time to completion of 13 hours.......

I'll check out the virtualdub thing.

You didn't say you had Adobe ;) If you can afford to, you can up the process priority in Window's task manager and it should bring the time for completion down quite a bit, although I expect you'd be looking at a similar sort of timescale with VirtualDub, but worth a try anyway :D

I didn't say I knew how to use it........

It's right at the top, consuming all the CPU.......

2.4Ghz, but I discover now, only 512mb Ram.......poxy.

Looks like I'll have to grin and bear it.

 (borrowing lots of C.J's grumpiness!):mad:

If you really need to do this type of thing (is it downloaded porn from limewire?), I could be persuaded to copie the Ulead CD-rom :).

nothing quite to "exotic" dear boy..... :P

a 2 hour vid of a evening "do" where a band i know played a few tunes and some other bits of "filler"

It's not that I'm in a rush or anything either, so I've got the time to wait, letting it chug along on Adobe in the server room overnight.

Ah well.

I am going to vote for nero. I think its called nerovision and comes as part of the main nero reloaded package.

I now have a homebuilt Media Center 2005 pc, and used roxio to burn a recorded tv program to dvd and even on the best setting the result was very poor. The same file burnt to dvd using nero was as good as the souce input file.
