Car selling/Mods removing idea.

Featured Replies

Wondering how much of a good idea it might be to sell the mods that are currently on my car, but with a slight difference.

I have no mechanical know how to strip the car of the mods ( Suspension, exhaust, CAI, RARB ) , the parts to replace or the time to spare if honest.

Someone said in jest the other day that it would be a better idea, to "sell" the mods on the forums, but then to take the car to the new donor car, and let someone with the knowledge to swap all the standard parts off their car and put them on mine, the mods vice versa on theirs.

They could then take such things as the better tyres off at the same time, as the car will probably then be sold for a fair bit less just as a family car I expect.

Does this sound a good idea in theory?

It would depend on how handy the buyer was, and the state of the OEM parts you were getting in return. Worn-out shocks and kerbed wheels wouldn't look good when trying to sell your 'standard' car...

As above, too much hassle if you can't do it yourself IMO.

It wont add any value to the car your selling so I would take them off, especially if the parts are interchangeable with your new car.

Personally, probably not a good idea as you could be left stranded with your car if there are any issues with the parts taken off the buyers car to fit to yours, unexpected bolts, nuts and other parts you won't plan for breaking etc.

Also to be honest if i was a buyer and i had to remove the parts from your car and then refit my original parts to your car i would not expect to pay or expect to pay a lot less than normal.

In terms or value for money standard parts are no cheaper than performance parts so you would not expect to make much money.

Different matter if you kept the original parts and refitted them yourself as what ever you get for the performance parts are profit.

For the hassle you may as well try and sell the car slightly higher with the benefit of those parts fitted.

my 2 cents ..

I think the point is he does not have the original parts to put back on .....

In that case just leave as be or try and source some standard parts to replace them if you really want to keep any of the parts. Mods are all a question of taste and weather its the buyers taste. If they are in line with what the majority of people swap anyway it might make the car more appealing to someone but it still does not add any value and you should price the car in line with the age, history and mileage. What ever you decide though you should have the car ready to go there and then. If someone turns up with the cash then it makes like a lot easier.
