Featured Replies

Well they definitely aren't the right ones so this should be interesting.

After many phone calls to the manager, he finally admitted:-

That they were the wrong ones!!!

They might have damaged my shocks due to the fact that they may of stretched them after being on there for nearly 3 weeks!!! :S

And the handling and braking were reduced by having incorrect springs fitted :o:o

So they have ordered some from VAG and will be fitting them early next week!!! :)

does anyone think i should try and push it by making them fit two new tyres on the front as a way of compo??? ;)

Why not!

Well done, Screw em for whatever you can you can get in compensation.

I thought they would wriggle & squirm all they could to avoid admitting fault.

I may be wrong. but I think the shockers are the same as standard Octavia?

They're not - the vRS has an extra fitting where the front ARB bolts on.

Here's mine - and my coilover which is for a non-vRS and doesn't have the fixing (doh!):

Just an addition for reference - I was under the impression VAG springs have a paint code similar to a resistor code in electronics, where quoting the colours of the bands identifies the precise spring. I know that's how a local VAG specialist identified the correct replacement spring for my Octy when it broke an inch or two off the top.

IIRC, for the VRS it's 1 violet and 4 yellow paint marks

Well after 4 weeks i finally have a car that sits as a vrs should!!!

And i also got two brand new front tyres fitted free of charge!!! :smirk:

Plus a new rubber exhaust hanger free of charge!!! :smirk:

The reason i got tyres etc free was because i got a call last Saturday to say the new springs were in so i arranged to go there on the Sunday..

When i arrived the manager said it would take a couple of hours so i went off to get a coffee, came back about half an hour later and he said that the new ones were in fact still the wrong ones and bigger than the ones they had already fitted!!!!

so i "suggested" that the two front tyres on my car were getting low and that he should fit some new ones at a great discount, when he asked did i want mid range or top range tyres i replied " not bothered mate as your paying!!!" ;)

so new tyres were fitted, i again told the manager that the springs were only available from vag and that they have the five coloured dots on them as it was pointed out on here (to which he said he had never heard of that!!!) :dull:

Went back today and they had the right ones brought from vag and not unipart had them fitted and  now my car feels like the same one i fell in love with when i test drove it..

So many thanks to everyone who replied and gave advice it is ver much appreciated.

Result, well done.

So you paid £208 for all that ???

The rs shock cost around that on there own iirc

Bitof a faf but good result in the end

Glad you got this sorted in the end! What a nightmare.

I had one of my front springs break about a year ago, the original VRS factory fitted spring, went with a loud bang followed by the front of the car slamming down!

My dads a ford mechanic, and says this is a problem with standard springs on all cars; they have a lot of cars relayed into the work shop by the AA, RAC etc, all sorts of makes, from a few weeks old, through to 6, 7, 8 years old, and the springs just have just given way. The problem seems to be the recycled cheap import steel that is used. (Rubbish steel from China or Taiwan or where ever)

Its quite alarming realy, when my spring broke I was only doing around 30mph and it realy makes the car drop; if this happens on the motor way, I think theres a good chance you could loose it into the barrier?... Ouch!

When we took my broken spring out, we could see a floor in the steel, which covered about a quater of the surface area where it broke.

I put 2 new standard vrs springs back in the front, as a quick fix due to a lack of cash at the time, but I'm planning to change all the springs to Eibach's soon, which are made from much better steel.

So, I gues anyone changing springs may well want to think about going for a good make.

Matt

Congrats on becoming a father,

Also congrats on screwing ****-fit out of some money! :giggle:

Glad you've got it sorted and to be fair, without much of a fight!

Glad you got this sorted with good results by the sound of things, sounds like there maybe one decent(ish) kwik fit branch around.A t least they did all they could to rectify the problem(i wonder if the recent tv programme has made them review the way they do stuff). :)
