Multi-function display speed distance units

Featured Replies

I'm about to pick up a 12 month old Octavia 2.0 tdi Elegance, I noticed the distance driven indicator was in km, can this be changed to miles.

A UK spec car should have an odometer that reads in miles....What country are you in?

If in fact you mean that current speed is displayed digitally in kmh then no you cant change that to mph (on a UK car)

Hi,

I'm in the UK, this is a Skoda supplied UK car. the display I'm refering to is the speed warning and distance travelled display, which was in km when I looked yesterday at the dealer.

So you mean the digital display between the speedo and tacho? And not the odometer in the speedo?

In that case, you can change the units for speed warning and trip distance between miles and km's using the menu system in the maxidot. You cant change the current speed digital display (which is always in km/h) into mph.

Exactly... Seems a bit strange, not to be able to change the current speed to mph, however, thanks for your help.

It's a legal requirement - the car must be able to display the speed in both mph and km/h to comply with European regulations. The speedo only has mph markings hence why the digital readout MUST display km/h.

Hope that helps.

It's about time they did away with old fashioned analogue speedos & put in accurate digital ones which you can choose mph or kmh.

It's not really any more accurate, as it seems to be getting the data from the same source...my KPH readout gives exactly the same as the MPH readout, whereas my satnav always shows the true speed to be under those displayed...

I think the speedometer in most cars is designed to read slightly faster than true. I see now! Due to there being no kp/h on the analog dial, the digital will be required when we go to France,

Most speeds are around 5% under

You will find the digital readout a great help in France, far easier than trying to read the smaller numbers on the normal speedo

Actually (and perhaps bizarrely) its only a legal requirement for km/h to be shown...Only km/h is OK and both are OK but not just MPH. This only applies to cars made since about 1973 or so I think.....

I have a old LHD SEAT which only has a km/h speedo and its legal in the UK.

But that doesn't later the fact the Octy analogue Speedo only shows MPH so the digital display has to be in km/h.

What a nightmare idea.

Get into a car and you don't know what the speedo registers in without going through a menu or worse still mistaking the speedo for the alternative scale! That would just lead to accidents and law suits.

No, leave the main speedo in the appropriate units for the market it is sold in and have the alternative display shown else where.

What would be good is the ability to have both KM/h and M/h displayed in Maxidot concurrently.

Most speedos read over the actual speed so that the driver can't get done for speeding when the speedo says a certain speed. Can you imagine the uproar if people got done for speeding because the speedo said 70 but you were actually doing 75...
