Octy Scout, First long Trip

Featured Replies

Weve just done our first long trip in the Scout, in total we covered 3822 miles in 10 days, a few days in France & then down to the Sierra Nevada in Southern Spain & what a fantastic place that is. The Scenery is probably as good as the Alps & thanks to Eu grants the roads are some of the best I have found anywhere, Add to that a motorway system that is virtually empty in September & it really brings back the joy of driving.

The car, well it was far better than I had expected it to be, both on the Motorways where we just set the cruise on 100 & on the sweeping mountain roads it was a joy. My Wife had booked a small place to stay in which was described as remote & secluded & thank god we had the Scout, 5km down a single track road & a further 3Km up a gravel mountain track, the car scrabbled for grip in a couple of places but made it seem so easy. well worth the drive as when you got there it was total relaxation, at night you couldnt see a single light, just moon & stars. In fairness the local builder could negotiate the track in a renault van but hes had a bit of practice

Only one speed trap just before calais on the way back but with the Liber-T motorway pass you can get straight through the Peyage & with only a couple of Genedarme on duty they took the poor brit just ahead of us. car was absolutely perfect, only ruined by the **** head who swerved to miss a puddle in kent & trashed my wing mirror just after we had got back to the UK, of course he didnt stop !!

Glad you had a good trip,

Know what you mean about getting back to the uk, we drove back from Nice in a day, within about 10miles of getting back to the uk we had been cut up twice.

That's a serious distance in 10 days! Sounds like the Scout stacks up pretty well then as a comfortable long distance cruiser? What sort of economy did you get over the trip? Aside from the door mirror mishap, were there any aspects of the car you were disappointed in or was it all positive? I was just thinking that with this sort of journey you would really get to know the car, warts and all.

Sounds like a good trip. We're off to France in our new Scout at the end of this month, almost looking forward to the drive (apart from the ~350 miles we have to do in England to get to the Channel Tunnel).

... with the Liber-T motorway pass you can get straight through the Peyage ...

How did you get the Liber-T pass? Direct from sanef, or through someone like tolltickets.com? Or did you just buy it directly at the first péage?

The car was really great, nothing bad to say at all, far more comfortable than I expected with no fatigue at all, seemed suprisingly quiet cruising at an indicated 100 & very stable in cross winds at speed, With the taller suspension a slightly rougher tyres I had expected that might be a problem.

Not sure of the average mpg for the trip, In the mountains it was low but I was enjoying the constantly twisting roads with enthusiasm. On the 2 long legs we did in one hit, both around 670 miles I got just under 41 on one & just over 41 on the other, this was the read out the car gave so probably a bit less but as I said we were cruising at around 100 for a lot of it, managed an average speed of 79 on one leg.

The big plus I think was with the ground clearance you could explore more of the small tracks without fear of a graunch from below

My Wife got ours direct from Liber -T http://www.sanef.com/

It really is worth it

If you cant translate it ring them, they always seem to be able to find someone who can speak excellent english, sometimes you are on hold for a while though or you can buy them at the peage although not all have offices

Glad you enjoyed the trip

Any pics including the Scout and nice scenery? :)

My French is good enough to cope with the website; it looks like they now only accept online orders from French bank accounts, so I guess we'll have to give them a ring.
