VW Alternative to Skoda MDI-Ipod connector

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm about to take delivery of a new hatchback Skoda Octavia in New Zealand. The connector to mate my ipod with the car's MDI interface is apparently $150! I've heard that VW sells the same part for much cheaper. Has anyone heard of this and do they know of the part number (my wife is currently in the USA and could easily get one).

Thanks.

You're kidding? It's about £20 for the cable from a dealer here in the UK... The VW cable is the same one as the Skoda cable but I'm afraid I don't know the part number.

I would have expected that if SWMBO goes to the VW dealer and asks for the MDI to iPod cable she'd end up with the correct one though

will this work with a bolero head unit then?

If you have an MDI socket then yes.

The excuse for the cost of the cable in Oz/NZ is that it's a kit, with MDI, USB and Aux cables.

Still unreasonable - I got my cable from the UK for about AUD$25 delivered.

where would the MDI socket be then? Back of the unit or by the AUX socket?

Aus$100 here so with the exchange rate it's close to the same. Bloody huge rip off just like the whole MDI interface is.
