Which 225/45 R17s for my L&K?

Featured Replies

With nearly 23k on the clock, my '08 L&K needs new fronts before the winter hits. I've currently got the (presumably) factory fit Bridgestone Potenza RE050s on at the moment.

After the weather last winter, I'm not particularly impressed with the way the Potenzas (or for that matter the Turanzas on my wife's 09 Octy 1.9) performed in the snow. We seemed to be the only ones struggling for grip.

So I'm looking for a recommendation for 2 new tyres that aren't Bridgestones... 225/45 R17. ( I might need a third because I got a nail in one of my rears last week. It's particularly annoying because it's got lots of tread left on it and didn't need replaced. I'm hoping that it's pluggable)

Currently considering the Uniroyal Rainsport 2 and the Pirelli Cinturato P7. Max budget is around £100 per corner, unless there's a strong argument for a particular brand/model that goes over. I'm not fussed for run-flats.

(Kwikfit currently have a very keen price on the Uniroyals, £82.28, which is tempting me.)

I'm also looking at the Continental Sportcontact 3. the re-inforced version is just over the £100, but the 'standard' version is cheaper at £95. is there much point in paying more for a re-inforced?

From your list I'd go with Rainsport 2s. I'd also consider Hankook V12 Evos myself as well.

Thanks. :) Much appreciated.

Just got Michelin Primacy HP from a local independent at £108 each. Hoping to get good mileage as per the previous OE Pilot Primacy.

Phoned KF and in 225/45/17 was quoted £130 ish each, is £82 for 15" versions?.

In the end got a local place to undercut blackcircles on goodyear eagle f1 (£98 fitted each)

My vote goes to Michelin Primacy HPs. Last forever, great mpg and quiet.

I've just swapped over from Vredstein Ultra Sessanta's to BF Goodrich Gforce Profilers, impressive so far and about £20 cheaper a side. But not sure how they'd handle the snow.
