Spare Wheel Provision

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I know that there have been a few posts on this subject, but we've just bought a one year old (59) Elegance 1.9 Tdi. A smashing car and everything is great, but I have a couple of spare wheel related questions:

1. When we inspected it before agreeing the deal there was no spare wheel or anything in the well in the boot. The dealer said they would provide a tyre repair kit. This they did, along with the moulded plastic holder and a locking wheel nut key. They also said that a towing eye was on order. But there's nothing else. Should we also have been provided with a jack and wheel wrench (+ perhaps other tools) or are they only provided if you have the optional spare wheel?

2. On this point, I am very tempted to get hold of a proper spare wheel or at least a space saver. Does it have to be a special Skoda Octavia spare wheel and tool kit, or would something similar from other VW ranges also suit that matches the "6.5J x 16" 205/55 R16 91V" spec? I am thinking of trawling Ebay for second hand spares from Golfs, etc. as a possibility as an alternative to paying the £150 quid for the Skoda spare and toolkit.

Thanks in advance for any advice and guidance.

I believe the tools, jack and wheel spanner are only provided with the spare wheel option.

The car should have had the puncture repair aerosol with a battery driven pnuematic pump as standard with the polystrene container . The option of a "full size" steel spare wheel was only about £55 when the car was new but cost quite a bit more as a separate part ( about £150 with the jack & tools). "Full Size" means not a skinny space saver but not exactly the same size tyres as fitted on the car.Any steel spare wheel should have the correct off-set.

I've got the same model What you need is this

Steel spare wheel 6.5J X 16H2 ET50 Vag part No 1KO 601 027K

This is what came with mine as the full size spare and tyre as you quoted

or... simply pick up a second-hand alloy from Ebay - lots of Audi wheels being sold with decent tyres for £30-£50. Any post 2004 Audi 16inch alloy will fit the boot bay but you will still need a wrench/jack etc though these are also available sometimes for about £20

Try the scrappies"sorry recyclers" bound to be a totalled car somewhere wityh spare & jack etc
