Another clunking question

Featured Replies

Right, there seems to be many knocking/clunking noise threads here, but mines is slightly different...

It only happens when moving (not whilst stationary and steering), it seems to disappear when turning left and a little when turning right, the noise comes from the FOS and it's really annoying, sounds like it's going to fall apart :o

The previous owner said he couldn't get to the bottom of it, nor could his mechanic... It's had a new spring, what looks like new bushes, track rod ends and ball joint, the drop link looks bodged the way they have put it back on but it's still perfectly function-able!!

Any ideas, CV joint maybe, it's the same tone/loudness at any speed, be it 5mph or 40mph!!

cheers

Stewart

How old is your motor?

Anti-roll bar collar(s) cracked, allowing the bar to move laterally?

Inclined to think CV joint as you also suspect, take to garage to verify, or friendly mechanic.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

plus is this a serviceable part or will it need welded??

good thought, i will have a look at this, i noticed the bush didn't look too new, it's a 2001!!

my mate has a four poster so going to go have a look underneath it at some point this week, see if i can resolve this issue as it's an irritating noise :wonder:

If it was CV joint would the knocking get faster with speed, cause it seems to be the same rate, albeit it carries on for longer at speed, say at 5mph, it would clunk maybe 2-3 times, but at 30 it would clunk 6-7 times at the same rate, same noise!! will investigate later as it seems the wheels i have just bought to replace my old worn tyres with have a puncture, not happy as bought wheels for the good tyres, now i need another one, this time in 16" :(
