Bury CC9060 VW branded

Featured Replies

I need to fit a BT kit to my new Octavia, and have decided on the Bury CC9060, however I've seen that there is a VW branded version that says it comes with all the right connections to plug straight in. Does anyone know if this would fit the Bolero? Trying to decide if it offers any advantage over a generic Bury and a SOT lead.

there is a vw version (usually on ebay) but theres also a fiscon unit which im going for. I think shark performance also supply and fit the skoda OEM too.

The Bury is significantly cheaper than the Fiscon unit. I have the non VW bury in my new Octavia (had one in my preFL Octy too) and it has superb functionality. They are great bits of kit for the price and there is also an update which allows more than one phone to be connected at the same time and also gives voice activation of voice control. This makes it even more useable.

will take a look into that thanks, does it work through the bolero touch screen?

No, you have to mount the Bury touch screen controller somewhere on the dash. I called the UK distibutor and they confirmed that the VW kit should have the right leads to fit a current Skoda, so I'm watching a couple on ebay and hope to pick up a bargain.

I have to say the customer support from Bury has been superb too. I have had a few queries and have always got an answer back within one working day.

Have it fitted professionally it only cost me £180 all in.....

OK, a quick update, and words of warning regarding the VW branded Bury.

Won a new VW branded Bury kit on eBay for £36. WooHoo, result, or so I thought.

When the kit arrived I found out that rather than having a VW specific harness, it's shipped without anywiring. You get a compatability chart and a lsit of VW part numbers for the cables. Found an on line shop selling the parts, another £30 and a few days later I have the VW wiring for power and connecting the phone kit to the speakers.

Next problem is that it's not a straight plug in job, you have to remove some wires from the quadblock connector, divert those to another plug, and replace them with wires from the new harness.

Not too difficult, except the wiring diagram instructions were only in German.

With the help of friend to translate, it looked lke a fairly simple job.

Except that removing the wires from the quadblok seemed impossible, took a long time and some googling to reveal that there was a purple plastic locking pin that had to be removed before you could remove the existing connectors.

Once all connected the phone kit connected with my Nokia 5800 straight away, downloaded my phonebook contacts, and works well for voice calls.

But it wouldn't read tests until I'd downloaded a Bury applet for the phone, however that now works OK too.

What it won't do is play the voice commands when using the phone as a sat nav. The phone knows its connected to a bluetooth device, so the phones speaker is disabled, but it won't play through the Bury.

Further internet searches revealed that this issue is fixed by a new verison of Bury software. So I downloaded the Bury update utility, and tried updating the control box with a laptop using bluetooth, but no joy.

The latest Bury updates are not compatible with the VW branded firmware, and apparently no updates are planned for the VW version.

At the moment it seems the only way around this is for me to spend anothe £60 on a new generic Bury control box.

So, in summary, Bury CC9060 seems to be an excellent bit of kit, voice commands work really well, BUTdon't buy the VW version if you want to use your phone as a sat nav, or also use it with an iphone.

Sorry, wish I'd seen this thread before you won that item! The standard Bury kit and the SOT is a much easier option, as I looked into the VW units the same as you did. Think these ones available on eBay are for the current Passat, which apparently has the correct wiring and preparation already in place for these.

Glad you're sorted though - it's a good bit of kit

Cheers,

Steve

The 'professional' could have fitted it inside the interior light, if they'd wanted...

It is a decent sized mic though - good quality though.

I have the same Bury unit in my Octavia and in my other car a Parrot mki9200.

I'd have to say the Parrot, with it's twin noise-cancelling mics, does a better job of picking up my voice.

In all other regards I'd say the Bury is better, the voice activation and dual-phone features are excellent.

I had a Parrot dual mic setup previously, in my Fabia and I personally think the Bury does a better job.

Not a problem to wire in a Parrot mic into the Bury though, if you really wanted the Parrot mic instead.

What other car's your MKi9200 in?

Parrot is in the mrs 2001 A3 TDi.

But I'd have thought the signal processing for the NR would be done in the Parrott box? Presumably it uses 2 out-of-phase signals to cancel noise, so just connecting a dual mic won't have much effect without the clever DSP/software?

I'd read on here and another form comments about the mic picking up lots of wind noise when mounted inside the light, even when in the foam block and with additional deadening material, plus it mean butchering the mic to remove it from the plastic casing, so opted to have mine stuck on the outside of the light.

I've contacted Bury this morning and I can have my control box reprogrammed to the latest version of software for €27 incl postage. This will make it compatible with voice directions from the Nokia Ovi Maps, and hopefully will remove the VW branding so I can download any future updates.

That's not been my experience. I've personally installed a fair few handsfree kits with the mic mounted inside the light unit - without any of the problems you mention. I'm not really sure where the 'wind noise' you mention would come from??
