Faulty side lights

Featured Replies

Hello, I am new to this site so please excuse me if this is the wrong place to seek advice about an electical fault on my Skoda Elegance 1.8T estate. My problem is that the off side front and rear side lights are not working. Also not working is the offside open door light and the driver's side interior light when I open the door. The offside side lights work as parking lights and the interior light will operate with the manual switch. All the other lights - heads, brakes, fogs and reversing work correctly. I have checked the fusebox by the steering wheel but there is no fuse for side lights and the headlight fuses etc seem ok.

I would be grateful for advice. many thanks.

interior light issues could be caused by water ingress into the loom/pins/connector block on the convince unit mounted in the drivers door. On the door side, it could be failed micro switches on the lock mechanism (sometimes just a dry joint).

For the sidelights, without consulting a wiring diagram I would not like to say for sure, but would initially suggest the switch was maybe at fault (but I have nothing concrete to back that up). The switch is easy to change, so see if you can find another octy/mk4 golf owner, etc to do a quick swap/test with.

Worth checking again fuses 22 and 23 (5A) for the sidelights. One is for the nearside and the other the offside. Note that fuse locations in the drivers manual are for LHD cars and you need to see it as a mirror image for RHD. I believe there is a different supply from the convenience unit (mounted behind the dash) to energy the sidelights as parking lights.

As mbames says, the door switch problem is common. Search on this forum and you will see many posts. Faulty microswitch will stop the interior light and door light from switching on when the door is opened.

Thanks mbames, I'll check what you've suggested.

Thanks also pikpilot. I did realise the handbook layout was LHD and fuses 22 and 23 looked ok but I will check again with a multimeter.

Bringing back an old post here for anyone who re-reads it...

o/s side lights were out so after changing the bulbs they still didnt work.

Fuse 33 has a 5amp fuse that had blown for side lights in the u.k

borrowed the heated wing mirror fuse in slot 38 for now and they work a treat.
