what modifications can i do to the car to get small increases in power without spending a fortune, i would love a remap but atm its not the right time as i want to enjoy the standard car for the moment and i dont want to affect reliability of the car. also its extremely hard trying to decide on which mapper to choose being in northern ireland there are lots around but no real life reviews that i can rely on, and ive since decided against posting my ecu over to the mainland as its just to risky. can anyone explain whats the difference between generic mapping and custom mapping?

also what would be the effect of using cheap diesel? lol weekend past i decided to go get so VERY cheap diesel so i took a trip of about 25 miles just over the border into the south to a small place id heard of, wasnt the most legal operation of course but i got white diesel for 72p a litre!! lol i am very skeptical about i keep wondering how they can possibly sell it for this price? what could be wrong with it and what harm could it potentially cause ? i went from exclusively running bp ultimate to this lol feel so bad for puting the car through it lol think ill be back to the ulimate despite the price.

In my experience of these things (OK, OK, so it's more or less what Jabba told me...) ;-)

Generic (£200-£350) - Generally a one size fits all remap. Minor tweaking (such as limiting torque or requiring a "mild" map) will be included. Intended for cars running standard engines and turbos. No rolling road testing or before/after run. Though the car is checked over beforehand to ensure it's running well and hasn't logged any interesting fault codes.

Custom (£400+) - Map is tailored to your car, your engine and turbo configuration and requirements. Car is tested on rolling road and the map is adjusted to give the best results.

Regarding the fuel... Erm... why are you running it on dodgy shoite if you're worried about longevity? At least feed it from TESCO or similar. Add a bottle of Millers DSP4 or whatever if you want a little more oomf.

Finally: Get it remapped man and limit the torque to preserve the clutch. It will actually save you fuel on light cruise as normally the EGR is turned right down.

As above. But you can get a top draw oscari/unit 18 map for £250 now. Custom etc etc, I can vouch, mines running sweet and will be returning for the big turbo mapping.

There is basically nothing you can do to the engine to improve performance significantly. Air filters etc. offer little benefit and increase induction noise.

Shark performance do a sts map. There site sponsors take a look at there page.

Also , I wouldn't really worry about the reliability of a remapped car - many people on here have their cars mapped for many thousands of miles with no problems as a result of the map. Obviously there will be additional stress on certain components, but these component could break just as easily on an unmapped car if the owner has a bad driving style.

As long as your sensible on the map choice and when you drive (i.e. don't boot it before 2k), your clutch and flywheel shouldn't randomly explode.

As Tas said above, Shark do an STS map and will send everything to you B)

i just thought id try the fuel as my mechanic recommended it to me, hesbeen running it for three years with no problems altho its playing big time on my mind so ill stop lol

i would love a map from shark or oscari but that would involve posting the ecu, wel yeah the sts is great but its 500 quid the cost of a custom map over here. (i missed the free sts offer as i had just bought my car lol)

im sure shark dont take your ecu??? sure they post out te sts unit and its just plug n play

yeah they do but its an extra £200, when i could get a custom map for 500 over here. i might just go for a custom as with generic youll never know how its running and bhp etc
