How clever is the DSG box?

Featured Replies

As in towing a wee empty 750 kg trailer today up the main road & dual carriageway this afternoon.

I noticed that she was holding 6th where normally would have changed up to 7th, when Driving at an indicated 60mph

when I nudged her over to manual and tipped her into 7th she held it fine, clicked her back to drive and dropped back to 6th.

all while running on cruise control on the level.

So what "tells" the gearbox about the extra load??

Cheers

Torque request, the engine ecu monitors engine load etc.

Same if you had five people and luggage in the car, it changes all kinds of things like injection quantities for example.

Scary stuff! this technology

***************************

I "tink" I got the ESP working on a long fast sweeping bend coming offen the Motorway.

I know it quite well & was "hoofing it" with the wee tlr on, mostly to wind up a dork in a Golf in the outside lane.

And she would not accelerate on a downwith ( that I could notice), this from about 60 ish.

Sniff! ...........................technology appears to have some drawbacks.

Cheers

M
