Engine change for vRS

Featured Replies

I'm going to change the engine on my vRS. I have 160k on her and want more power so looking at a K04 with a fresher engine.

If I buy a k04 engine its expensive so what's the best engine to match up. Thinking of the k04 instead of a k03 hybrid as want oem reliability.

The engine that comes out will be rebuilt and slipped in to my Mk1 Golf GTI.

What's my options.

a hybrid k03s will be more reliable than a oem k04 fact as the hybrid unit will use uprated thrust bearing wich is the biggest failure in the kkk turbo's and the k03s hybrid will out performe the oem k04 fact

but if your doing the full swap then your best bet would be to find a low milage BAM engine this has the k04-053 and also has stronger internals

not a hard job infact i have pulled an engie and box out on the drive in 1 hour

Is there not a 150hp engine with big valves which has a better flow rate or did I dream that.

Not to worried about the engine swap more worried about the price of a fresh bam.

Wife hates my baby, golf, so have to sneak this by her somehow

very early golf 1.8t cable throttle engines (agr i think) had massive intake ports compared to the later engine, ideally you want that head on a bam block and ancillaries, and for the record kkk turbos are not great unless hybridised (uprated or 360 thrust bearing and tougher seals) if you are looking for something to drive hard alot
