Posting photos from Flickr with their new system

Featured Replies

Flickr have recently changed the format of their pages and it's lead to a lot of confusion about how to now post Flickr images on forums. It's quite easy really, just different from the old way (which imo was better).

Here is my tutorial for anybody who is looking for how to use the new Flickr.

Open you Flickr page and click on the photo that you want to post.

Click the "Share this" button

Click "Grab the HTML/BBC Code" link

Select the size you want from the drop down list

Select the BBC code radio button.

Copy the text in the box

You will get all of this (I have added spaces to stop it displaying as an image)

[ u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/][i m g] h t t p : / / f arm5.static....b53c23f8f_z.j p g [/i m g][/u r l][u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/]RLR_9543[/u r l] by [u r l=http://www.flickr.com/people/rreeve/]r reeve[/u r l], on Flickr

If you just paste the text you get an image that is also a link to the photo on your Flickr page plus the advertisement text for Flickr at the end. Like so

If you want the picture and to have it as a link simply remove the ad text that is below in bold (spaces added by me again)

[ u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/][i m g]h t t p :// farm5.static....b53c23f8f_z.j p g[/i m g][/u r l][u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/]RLR_9543[/u r l] by [u r l=http://www.flickr.com/people/rreeve/]r reeve[/u r l], on Flickr

You will get this (mouse over it for the link)

4770938062_6b53c23f8f_z.jpg

If you just want the image but not ad and no link to Flickr then remove everything that is below in bold (spaces again)

[ u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/][i m g]h t t p://farm5.static....b53c23f8f_z.j p g[/i m g][/u r l][u r l=http://www.flickr.com/photos/rreeve/4770938062/]RLR_9543[/u r l] by [u r l=http://www.flickr.com/people/rreeve/]r reeve[/u r l], on Flickr

and you will end up with

Just remember that by modifying the code you are actually violating the Flickr terms that you agreed to when signing up so I am not endorsing this approach nor am I encouraging you to do it and I'm sure that there is no official support from this forum either.

I'd been messing about just copying the reqd BBcode to just display the image as per your third option in the past. But when it came to putting my images up on here yesterday, (40-odd of them), i decided to tow the party line and just do like you should and copy and paste the lot in.....

Does boost your Flickr stats considerably though using the official method. ;)

Cheers

Dave.

True. I'm closing in on 100,000 views of my photostream now.

I generally use the second option and make the photo a link but remove the little bit of text afterwards.

A lot of people just look at the new methods and get all confused between the HTML code and BBC code options and I was asked to explain it on another forum so I thought I'd just do a copy and paste for here as well.

Yeah good idea. The new method is a lot harder to get your head round.

Cheers

Dave.
