Ok, it's not a very technical explanation, but our Skoda Fabia Y reg with 109k on the clock is making some odd noises. We've always had the squeaks and dashboard creaks, which we understand are normal with older Skodas. However, more recently the engine has taken to making a very strange noise that sounds like you need to change gear or something. It's like a high pitched whirring noise.

Has anyone else had this issue and/or knows what it would be? I'd rather not let the local Garage charge us an hours labour to try and find the problem. And of course, how much would it cost to fix?

If its TDI could be possibly be the Turbo or unless its being mistaken for the gearbox whine?
