VRS dashboard dials show current MPG?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if the VRS's show how many mpg you are getting when driving along.

Had a look and search and cant find anything.

Just wanted to know since i know the golfs show it.

Thanks.

Craig.

Yes they do Craig. Can be found by scrolling through the trip computer. Program one shows the average for current or recent journey, program 2 holds data for the last 99:59:59 of driving (hh:mm:ss), and then it resets. To switch between programs you press the button at the bottom (reset - so do not hold, just a quick press). You can then scroll through data by using the two buttons at the end of the right stick.

Use the rocker switch on the end of the windscreen wiper stalk to cycle through the trip computer display options. There's 2 MPG functions - "immediate" (updated every 5s, I think), and "trip average" (average for the current trip, including preceding trips with less than a 2-hr break). The "trip average" function has a second mode (use the reset button on underside of the wiper stalk to toggle between them), which is "lifetime average" (mode 2), although this is limited to the last 100-hrs or 10,000 km of driving, after which it resets itself.

I always use "number 1"....is this correct?

Number 2 fluctuates wildly sometimes

That's entirely correct. As earlier, Mode 1 is trip mpg.

Mode 2 is "instantaneous mpg" and can do anything from 0.0 (sitting idling), something like 6.6 (full throttle at maybe 3_500rpm), 50 to 90 (main road cruising) to several hundred (personal record is 821.4) before going to ---.- on the over-run as the fuel cutout shuts the injectors down.

The average MPG figure can be wildly out. Over two tankfuls mine was shown to be 22.6% over-reading (i.e. implied better economy than achieved)
