Servicing - How long do you have when the light comes on?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Have a VRs PD and the service indicator is showing approx 1500 miles till the next service, on variable at the moment.

This puts me smack bang in Christmas when I have to pay out for the 5th annual service.

So my question is how long can you, should you , run the car when the service lights switches onin term sof miles.

Thought it was something like a 1000 miles but wanted to check

Cheers

You've kind of answered your own question there.

You've got the 1500 mile count down (it will actually say 1500 miles or 30 days).

So really, within either the next 1500 miles or 30 days you should get it in for a service.

What will happen if you go over that time?

Nothing really - car will be happy to carry on and probably won't cause any issues at all.

Only thing you're threatening is your warranty, but it looks like your car is over 3 so it's no problem.

As said previously :)

The service interval light is based on time and mileage and has nothing to do with how the car is driven or really whether it actually needs a service. If you did the annual mileage in 3 months the light would come on and if you left the car parked unused for 12 months the light would still come on.

A couple of thousand miles either way getting the service done will make no difference what so ever to the life span of the car. The only thing I would be concerned about is if the cam belt is due for a change, I wouldn't run that too far past the suggested mileage.
