Strange noises when turning/ mainly reversing

Featured Replies

Only had the car two days an 04 fabia vrs - making a weird noise not like screeching more of ooooer type of noise lol

Please help

Is it when applying the breaks?

Some cars do suffer from the "Moo" and you can get weights to stop it.. my Elegance used to sound like a cow every time I braked in reverse.

If yours is doing it when turning as well could be somethings loose on the back?

Someone with more experience of it will be along shorty, hopefully :)

don't think so I'll check but think just when turning like I said mainly in reverse

If the noise is coming from the back after the car has been standing, its more likely to be the rear calipers stickiing, due to no return springs on the handbrake cable, have a look at this http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/137832-handbrake-cable-issue-on-my-vrs/

Mine has been doing this for some time so I've bought some springs as mentioned in the thread.

It's doing it when I brake coming from the rear

It's really bad when reversing I donno why coz it didn't do it when I bought if

The colder the weather and if the car has been parked up for a while it does do this.

It's been driven most days it was parked on a hill last night.

I'll get it looked at if it persists but annoying and embarrassing

Thanks for the links but I'll have to live with it for now, completely broke not got £100

Any idea of a quick fix? The guy I bought it off did say he had the breaks cleaned :-/ and it wasn't moo'ing when I bought it but it is today which is odd - I could be my hard breaking and driving style what's done it.

I've also noticed it does it on or near to full lock

Here.. might shed some light..

Octavia Mooing Brake fix..

Looks a bit of a pikey mod to me. Fit some springs only £4.02. and while you are at it, clean the rust off the edges of the brake disc, that helps sticking as well.

Kwik fit do a free brake check I'll take advantage of it

Careful.. they'll give you a round up in the worst possible light they can legally get away with.

Kwik Fit? They'll give you a quote for renewing all your suspension, tyres, and braking system :rofl: , doubt if they wil sctually fix anything that you asked for;

I thought something might be sticking I pulled handbrake up full and released seems to have fixed it, guess it'll need looked at sometime

You could try hand-sanding disc surface to clear any rust from disc face? (has the pads ever been replaced?)

Bought car yesterday, I'll take wheels off take a proper look

At kwik fit they said it's brand new pads on the back the wheels are free spinning they can't see any problem.

The noise happens on full lock reverse and if it's not the breaks what could it be?

They said a full brake clean is £19 but I'm convinced they were done before I bought it
