Uh oh, electric window ground to a halt!

Featured Replies

Yet another problem for a week eventfulness!! :wall:

Went to wind down my drivers window as usual and got nothing but a couple of inches of opening and a lot of grinding sound!!

Got home, removed the door panel to be met by the inner door panel held together by rivets. Rivets???!!!!! F-ing rivetts, not screws!! :@

Anyway. After drilling all of the bast***s out the inner door panel still would not come any more than a couple of inches off but I managed to find the problem regardless. Turns out to be that the winder cable has somehow kinked instead of winding nicely around the reel and now looks as if I need a new cable.

Does anyone know if I can just buy the cable or do I have to but a whole new mechanism and where the best place is to get hold of what I need? Also, any tips on re-fitting would be much appreciated as it would prob make life a whole lot easier for me.

Cheers guys.

Mine did this, didn't bother looking for a cable and just bought a whole new mechanism.. from skoda they come already mounted on the inner panel.

How do you plan to rivet the door back together?

Ummmmmm, With 8mm rivets?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

How much did the panel set you back?

The whole door carrier/regulator comes to around 70 quid, the regulator is riveted to thecarrier so its easiest to get the whole thing.

Let me know how you get on with standard size rivets, the ones i got through skoda were a funny size and wouldn't fit a normal rivet gun, would be interesting to know if standard rivets fit ok for future reference.

Where did you get the 8mm rivets? and what tool do you have?

I could only find 4.8 - 5mm rivets that were all too small and that was the biggest my lil tool could do aswell..
