New car has arrived - + IPOD Cable Question

Featured Replies

I know Skoda has been messing people about but trust me they would have nothing on whats been happening to our lease cars, you could write a book on the ordering and delivery of 5 cars!

However happy days mine arrived yesterday two weeks ahead of schedule, and its all as I ordered, so the North Wales area has another Candy White VRS.

I called into the local dealer to see how much the IPOD cable was going to be for the MDI I had factory fitted and was told £26, now I dont mind paying that but they aint got one and will have to order it. So off to ebay this morning and there seems to be loads of these fpr sale:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Seat-Skoda-Media-In-iPod-Lead-Adapter-Brand-New-/280570237375?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item41534a11bf

Does anyone know if this is the right part or for soemthign completely different. I have tried checking the part number but dont really get an answer.

That looks like the correct part for the mdi.

You can also get a cable to plugin a laptop type external HDD which to me is more convienient than the ipod cable, since you can have all your music in the car and just leave it in there.

Looks the right one to me

I'm trying to get Skoda to pay for mine as it clearly says in the new Fabia vRS brochure that the cable is included!!

I've always thought that it is a bit daft after paying £150 for the MDI as an optional extra that they don't include a cable as standard, especially as the MDI option is useless without and they want £20+ list price for them.

With VW on a lot of models MDI is a standard feature that includes the basic USB cable. I suppose VAG would call this differentiation between the brands.

eBay seems the best bet for buying MDI cables. I have an iPod cable sat on my desk at work which I picked up for £12, a USB cable should be on its way for £7. I found the most effective searches to be 'VW MDI' or 'VW media in'. At dealers list price the pair would have been ~£45 :$$$:

Best regards

David

Thanks for all of the replies guys, I am a bit of a podcast fan and use the driving time for work to catch up on all of the news via these and hence the IPOD is the best thing for me.

You probably want a mini-USB MDI cable, Skoda part number AZO800003 according to the accessories website (http://www.accessories.skoda.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?p_no=AZO800003):

I haven't yet seen any of these on eBay so you are probably left with attempting to wrangle a good price from your dealer. Alternatively try and find a short mini-USB male to USB-A male cable (like the one you use between your computer and the USB HDD). Luckily I have a really short one about 10cm that came with a Sansa Clip MP3 player.

Or get one of the USB cables off ebay and get one of these

still cheaper than the dealer

+1 - I took my dealer to task on that one, and they assured me that for future customers they'd "reprice" the option to include the (stupidly overpriced) cable kit. It just left a sour taste in my mouth to take delivery of my Scout with the MDI installed and then not be able to use it - well, until I'd received the ipod cabel from the UK at 1/3 the price of the cable kit here in Australia.
