Any experience of All Season tyres?

Featured Replies

got through last winter OK with 1/2 worn Michelin Pilot Sorts on the front of my Octy vRs PD, in fresh / compacted snow maybe 100mm deep with wet slush / frozen slush. just take it easy in 1st until moving then into 2nd. No probs. will probably swap the Front to Rear later on as the Rears have a bit more tread than the fronts now

I am on my second set of Quatrac 3 after running Quatrac 2 on a Golf and the Octavia. I would prefer Q2 but they do not do these in the Octavia size (15") any more. Q3 is probably a better all season tyre with a bit more tarmac bias than mud and snow. Still a good tyre though but not quite as "grippy" as Q2 but then in an average winter this is not a big problem. I found myself running out of ground clearance before I lost all traction on the 4x4 although there was quite a bit of scrabbling at times. The tyres are quite reasonably priced too. I have now invested in a spare set of steels to run Vred snowtracs but then I do a bit of track and off tarmac driving where these come into their own. The bonus with the Q3 is you can get them in the OE speed rating for the car. Wear rate is slightly poorer than the Q2 (about 23,000mls Q3 as opposed to 26,000 Q2) but still better than the original Dunlops which were good tyres but only made 17,000mls.
