Registering second-hand Skoda?

Featured Replies

I've just picked up my March 2008 Skoda (woohoo :) ) and wondered if there is a number to 'phone to register my ownership, so that I get informed of any recalls, and can check that any issued so far have been done? I couldn't find anything in the manual about this.

Can anybody help?

Any future recalls are done in conjunction with the DVLA as they have the registered keeper details...

That's a shame. When I bought a second-hand Mazda RX-8, the owners manual had a number to register ownership with Mazda. They told me on the 'phone that it was missing an ECU update (Mazda keep a full electronic service record) and arranged for the local dealer to do it for me. This meant that I never missed anything like that, which wasn't a VOSA recall, but was beneficial to get done.

So is the only way to check up updates etc. to go to a dealer? Will they charge me, and will there be a full record of what's been done to my car?

One of the things I want to check is whether the DSG gearbox had it's oil changed at the last service (30k miles), as the 60k km box was ticked, but there is nothing else to indicate if it was done. Is this kept in an electronic record the dealer has access to?

Just call Skoda Customer Services - number will be on www.skoda.co.uk. Then you will get first hand info of any recalls.

I had some documents with my second hand car about re-registering it. One of them was for Skoda, the other was for the window etching - might be worth looking into the latter.
