1.6 TDi Tuning

Featured Replies

Looking back on previous posts it would seem that it's not possible to re-map this particular engine.

Does anyone know any different.

Due to our company's new 'Green' car policy I've been 'steered' towards having one of these. I knew it was going to be underpowered ( I think I was a bit spoilt before with a Mondeo with 155 BHP and 400 Nm torque ) but I didn't realise how bad it would be. I'd take the spare wheel out to lighten it, if it had one !!

There must be some fairly simply mod that can be done to help it a bit, I don't want a 'fast' car but a bit more torque and 20 BHP and this would be a much nicer car to drive.

our company has bought the 1.9tdi's for a good few years but now having to buy the 1.6tdi, ive never been too convinced about its ability compared to the older pd unit, we do high miles (handed my last one in at 166k) and carry quiet alot of kit, so will have to see when they start arriving, luckily for me i paid extra six months back and got the 2.0PD TDI 140 and very happy with it, although wish i went for the dsg, only 3 years to go for replacing with a vrs tdi rc dsg lol.

I have the 1.6 Cr with the DSG.

I am not used to "sporty" or high powered cars, regardless of this, I do not feel the 1.6 CR is lacking for any sort of normal driving.

However the DSG perhaps helps to compensate for any possible lack in the 1.6 CR as it fairly zips through the gears.

mostly i am alone in an empty car somtimes with the missis for company, oh and the full sized spare in the boot.

However however I might consider getting her chipped in a wheen o years...... ie when out of warrenty.

i have just got one of these as my company/cos car. Do you work for a certain large energy company too?

mine is a DSG and has now done 3500k in 5 weeks. it certainly wont win any drag races but the DSG masks this a lot. i had a golf with the same engine for 6 months and that felt slower (manual box)

anyway i believe TUNET can chip the car for around £480 with variable BHP from stock up to 150, i am very tempted....

try www.tunit.co.uk

let us know if you take the plunge

It sounds like this engine is better suited to the dsg, i guess it would make better use of what little power it has.

My thoughts exactly. The seven speed DSG has the advantage of two more gears than the five speed manual 'box.

I work for a large company, but not an Energy company. I think a lot of companies will go down this route to help their carbon footprint. In fairness there is an up side, I contacted trhe tax office yesterday ref. the new car and my Tax code has been changed for the better ( for me )

Nope, private purchase & intending to keep for 12 or 15 years.

Only put 750 miles on her in this first month, still driving the ould 1998 Galaxy bytimes.

I was tempted to stick with the last of the old 1.9PD's, but the fuel sapping "wet" DSG put me off a bit.

Despite vowing to never buy an unknown/untried specification of car............... without test driving...................... in this case we bought a "pig in a poke", .............................without any regret in respect of performance, or in any other respect either cept its not a Yeti................a long story.

cheers

M

PS

re the "chipping" .............my reservations would be with clutch life,.................. ie the higher torque/HP varients still get the "wet" DSG.

I tought the 250 figure was the upper limit for the dry DSG??.

I am aware that there will be a "factor of safety" built in to ensure longevity, but since we intend to keep the car??
