Can the fan/alternator belt be tightened?

Featured Replies

The slight noises I hear when idling when the cars cold took a turn for the worse today (temp dropped to 2 degrees with ice) and turned into more of a light squeal so i'm hoping its something simple like the belt slipping. Went away after about 30 seconds or so.

Can they be adjusted? Likely to be a warranty fix? Its already booked in to have the gearbox ripped apart soon so will get them to look at it :(

Hi Ste,

Yeah...it can be adjusted no problem. It's not a warranty fix though! If anyone has a slightly slack belt it usually starts to squeal about now...excrutiating isn't it! Let us know what they find when they disect your gearbox.

Bests...;)

Thanks for the Info Ian, good to know... just hoping its that now :) By the time i'd got to a spot to pull over to see where it was coming from this morning it typically stopped! Will try and catch it tomorrow morning as no doubt it'll be back

Anyone else have to defrost this morning? Looks like winters here!

If you don't want to adjust the tention ,and possibly make it to tight ,and damage the alternator bearings, you can get a Belt Dressing Aerosol ,which improves the friction of the belt
