New PC

Featured Replies

Well as my 6 year old P4 3.8GHz PC was getting a bit long in the tooth, thought I'd treat myself to a better rig for gaming.

Pentium i5 3.2 ghz

4 gig ram

DX11 graphics card

500 Gb WD raptor HD

Best money I have spent in ages. This rig runs Crysis on full detail at 50 FPS

Came with Windows 7 and I must admit, I like it even better than XP SP3

Right, I'm off to blow stuff up.

Cool:)

Nothing like a new rig. What card is it you have?

I am on the verge of building my next one also. Still cant decide whether to go i7 or AMD1090HT. ( most of our gaming clan have went the i7 route so I might go AMD just to be different ). This one is 3 years old and is getting ready for the boot.

Card is the ATI Radeon HD 5870 CF. Has power cables going to it that would start a car

BTW i7 is a bit of overkill, and way pricey. Go for AMD Black edition and overclock

Overkill for what? :)

A 950 3.06 Bloomfield is £215 or so , as apposed to a 1090T 3.2 Hex Black Ed. at £200 , so not a lot in it price wise.

The price difference seems to be more in the i7's triple channel ram and mobo costs. But at gaming rig prices, on a machine that has got to have a little longevity, its not a lot different either way. Going the AMD route would probably save me enough money to buy a SSD boot drive to **** about with.

They 5870 is a good card. Get Black Ops and come play us:p

I have 2x 4870's in this old box. After both my 8800's blowing up.

Lol , swear filtered.

Oh don't!

I've been itching to upgrade something for a while but can't totally justify it yet as my Q6600, 4GB ram and 8800GTX seem to be doing quite well still and can still crank the settings up pretty bloody high on even new games at 1920x1080.

I think I would probably get a video card update first and then do the rest later perhaps.

Been testing my new setup this week. Went for the 1055T AMD 6 core just to be different. Running on stock cooler ( quite efficient but whiney ) @ 6x 3.4GHz. Waiting on my new cpu cooler and new systems fans ( lol , old ones - cables too short to reach position on new mobo as in different corner ).

Around the 4 - 4.2 Ghz seems the norm for these on air with a decent cooler.

Oh , yeah , she fast ! :)

Anyone got a new Zalman9900 on their AM3 / i7 / i5 ?

I am looking for a quiet solution, but space is tight. Most of my gaming friends have one of these - but they are huuuuge.

Opinions please if anyone has a new i7 / Hex setup.

I'm looking for excuses to "go large" lol

I'm slightly better off than you though as I have an 4870 ati card.

I'm fighting the urge but I don't know how long I can hold off for
