Coil Pack Gone, Ok to drive

Featured Replies

Running rough but close to home. Got her home and its a coil pack thats gone. I have to travel 35 miles in the morning. I know this will kill my cat but its old so can stick on s sports cat.

What I'm wondering will to do any other damage?

I wouldn't risk that length of journey.

I have a couple of spares but your miles away from me.

Maybe a local friendly member has a spare.

i wouldnt do it but your choice

3 cylinders is never a good thing lol

Disconnect the injector of the cylinder with the dead coilpack.

That way, no unburnt fuel enters the cat.

If you can disconnect the injector, maybe, if not you'll get bore wash from the unburned fuel. I think a TAXI fare for a 35 mile trip would be cheaper.

Yeah agreed. But only as a last resort. Personally I'd leave the car at home since you've got it there. Not worth the risk. Get the bicycle out!

rk696, is your car red? Might have spotted you tonight if it is.....

When the coil pack failed on my mk1 vrs i limped it home the 2 miles but wouldnt drive it anymore until i fixed it. not only are you going to damage your car but the reduced performance makes it dangerous to drive, personally i think its madness to drive thay kind of distance with a faulty car.
