No more police Skodas?

Featured Replies

Seems like a good idea - while everyone likes a choice, the police, like everyone else, should get the best "value for money" based on what the majority of their fleet actually do, not what someone fancies.

I know of an organisation that only ever buy vauxhall's and have done for the last 20 years because the deal they're offered everytime on replacing the fleet is just too good to ignore.

Ironically, the only other manufacturer that matched the price was Mercedes. But as it's a charitable foundation, it was felt having their representatives rock up in a Merc might give the wrong impression........

A sound idea but why buy high performance cars from premium manufacturers?

If you're going to buy all your cars from Vauxhall for instance buy VXR Insignias for high performance motors or even VXR8s

I though they were using VRSs as pursuit vehicles anyway.

Rejecting a 150mph £18k Skoda to buy a 155mph £30k Audi doesn't make a lot of sense.

Depends really.

The Hampshire police seem to mostly use 330D or 335D BMW Estates.

They are a good blend of speed and economy. To have comparable performance, you'd be looking at performance petrol Skodas/Vauxhalls, and with the mileage the police do, they'd need to run LPG to obtain similar cost per mile.

There's certainly a good case for cars being sourced through a national agreement with the manufacturers and government.

They obtain a single standard price list and then individual forces can place orders as their needs and budgets allow, rather than them each doing their own thing.

Because most fleets are going pure diesel (even pursuit cars) and you can't get a "proper" quick diesel unless you go for a 3.0 Audi or BMW

in the "blue light Yeti" thread they're discussing this, and how "VW" stated in the story means the whole group, not just VWs

Shame - I'd like to see a lot more un badged Mk2 DIESEL vrS - ESPECIALLY IN SILVER . Reason - it might give those of us driving one of the not so old SDI/TDI a respite from the "lets get up the rear end brigade -you're not going fast enough " brigade . Me - I love to get them on a tight road - and teach them a handling lesson( little Furby on a tight road can give most a lesson in the right hands) , but in town ,where it's not safe to indulge - once a few get nobbled by older traffic cops in "grandad cars" --we oldies might get some peace .

Looks like VW are on the list though and I'm sure the police get good discounts on Skodas. They have a good reputation with the boys in blue too so i reckon they will still take them.
