Bit too pricey?

Featured Replies

Hey all, i got a quote for a 60k service, cambelt change and water pump earlier from a skoda dearler and all in costs £798, but that includes brake fluid replacement and pollen filter replacement. Any ideas if this is a bit on the pricey side?

Seems a bit pricey, have you tried going to a local independent vag specialist

I think unit 18 quoted me nearer £400 for the same thing. So yeah, very pricey to me.

Ridiculous  £500 tops.

Do you have to use a Skoda dealer? Find a VAG indy and you'll halve that price

aah alrighty lol thanks guys, thought it was. I dont know of any independants but il have a look, unless anyone knows of any around medway, kent?

Brett, I know a specialist on Medway City estate that would sort you out for a reasonable price - JRM Autos (01634 296326).

The owner, Jas is a really good guy and one of the few people that I trust to work on my car

Let's see working from the sorts of prices I've paid at Skoda dealers - service around £220 (including pollen filter; standard for a 20k interval service), cambelt around £350, pump £50, brakes £40 = £660

Yes - £798 seems very high - ask for a breakdown ...

Yeh thats seems steep, I payed £375 for full service, bets, pump and insp at unit 18 a year ago, prices may have climbed a little but not that much

Look for a good local indi garage

£798................. :giggle::D:rofl: .................. walk away fella.

This is the biggest p1ss take I have seen for this job doing.

Go to unit 18, get the necessary work done and then get a remap while you are there. It will be same price as stealers quoted

Thanks for the input guys  didnt realise that the same work can be done for near enough half the price :giggle: Gareth il give him a visit in the week and see what kind of quote i can get, thanks for that mate. Why do cars decide to cause expense all at once, even my tax is due now :dull: lol

Brett, if it helps i'll be seeing him on thursday morning, so I can ask him then for a quote for you

Lol

Unit 18, very reasonable in comparison.

Note you don't actually need to change the water pump (more likely to damage it getting it out) and if you think upgrading to a metal bladed pump is an improvement, I would think again

Note also the brake fluid change is a piece of p, did mine myself with one of those tyre compression kits that work well if used correctly. Cost hence about £25

Done by an kind of garage, wouldn't expect to cost more than £50.

Pollen filter lol is about £10 and to fit again is a piece of **** - once you know where it is...should be standard part of service anyway

That'll be great Gareth, thanks matey top man  I was originally thinking of a metal propeller water pump but heard they can be more harm than good so il be sticking to the OEM. I only really want to replace as i know what luck i have so when the cambelts done, the water pump will die soon after haha, im never a lucky sod
