Oil Filler Cap

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I wonder if anyone can help with an explanation please? My car does about 5000 miles a year, so I look under the bonnet infrequently. This summer I noticed that the oil filler cap on my petrol octavia rs had come apart: The cap was still sealing the opening and was screwed in, but the plastic bit with the picture of the oil symbol was missing (and the raised bit to turn the cap too). I got the part number and ordered a replacement filler cap. Ive just filled the screenwash bottle up and hey presto, the replacement oil filler cap has done the same thing!!!

p.s., I have no idea why the photo is backwards, maybe the engine bay is haunted!!!

Now, I'll be able to unscrew it with a pair of pliers and replace it, but does anyone know why this is happening please?

Thanks

Nick

I'd say they both came from a faulty batch of filler caps, I'd go back to the dealer with your receipt for the replacement cap and see if they will give you one FOC in return for the broken replacement.

It's because of the loose engine-cover hitting against the oil cap.The solution is to get a cai and throw the engine cover in the garbage can where it belongs.

You can even see the contact point. The cover is chipped.
