Swirl Marks

Featured Replies

I've been looking at my gorgeous shiny black octavia and am impressed with the valet it had, when i picked it up from the car centre, however, in the brightest of sunshine, i have noticed that there are swirl marks on the bonnet, which look like spiders webs, probably from either a sponge wash or more likely machine polish.

I was reading a post on how to get rid of them HERE and was wondering what the general consensus was.

My swirl marks aren't that bad or that deep, but you can recognise them in the sunshine. My method of cleaning would be to wash the car by hand with Autoglym Shampoo and then to polish the car with Autoglym extra shine. But the forum above states to use Autoglym Super resin polish after i have used some kind of paintwork chemical cleaner such as Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, but being somewhat of a noob to proper valet cleaning, i was wondering, if i carried out the swirl removal in addition to my normal weekly cleaning?

Any thoughts?

Cars get swirl marks from poor washing, not machine polishing.

After you have washed the car apply the Super Resin polish, this is ever so slightly abrasive (nowhere near aggressive enough to remove swirls) but also contains fillers which will go a fair way to mask/fill the swirls. This is also a good base for either Extra Gloss Protection or Ultra Deep Shine which will provide your with the protection element of the process.

I now wash with Meguiars Gold class shampoo then use some Poorboys Black hole show glaze.

Its really easy to use, then apply a good wax. (I use Collinite 476S )

It covered a lot of swirling on my paint and made a much deeper shine. The Collinite is a durable clear wax, it's not the easiest to apply

but has a reputation for durability,
