Speedo Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Starting to get annoying this now, got told when buying it that it was a speedo sensor, now changed this and still the same, all wiring checked and ok, and all fuses are ok.

Could anyone confirm what sensor actually runs the speedo as it's so annoying not having the speedo working,

Testing the speed signal

If the speed display on the speedometer is faulty, one must check whether the speedometer signal is present.

– Connect vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- → Chapter.

– Reading measured value block → Chapter.

– Select the display group 001 and conduct a test drive.

If the speed is indicated in the display of the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, the dash panel insert is defective and must be replaced.

If also no speed display appears in the display of the vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-, the signal must be tested on the multi-pin connection on the dash panel insert.

– Remove dash panel insert → Chapter.

– Connect the test box -V.A.G 1598- with the adapter -V.A.G 1598/25- to the blue 32 pin connector.

– Use multimeter -V.A.G 1526 A- to measure the voltage between the chamber 28 and the vehicle mass.

– Roll the vehicle slightly forward and backward.

Nominal values:

The voltage must rise from 0 V to approx. 12 V and drop again to 0 V (pulsating direct current voltage).

If the specified values were not reached, the wiring to the vehicle speed sender must be tested.

– Test the wiring according to the current flow diagram → binder “Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locationsâ€

If the wiring is O.K., the vehicle speed sender must be replaced.

Could be the dash itself? (above)

Knowing my luck it could be this, speedo works. but the MPG etc doesnt, Only fuel range, clock and temp work on there.

pm bertee on here he has 2 spare one out of my old cars im sure it will part with one for a few quid (he is my bro inlaw )

hth clive

Try removing fuse 15. If the speedo then works the 2 voltage regulators in the dash either have dry joints or have died.

Right had the car read for faults again yesterday and it's still bringing up Speed Sensor as a fault, tested the voltage being sent to the sensor and it was fine, and also took the sensor that goes into the box out too see if the fins where broke but these seems fine also, So now I'm mega stumped as too what it could be.

Im confused,in one post you say the speedo doesnt work then in another you say the speedo works but the mpg etc doesnt, the mpg etc is part of the on board computer/multi function display & if this isnt working id say you need a new cluster,if it the speedo that isnt recording your speed(needle not moving) then the sensor could be faulty or the speedo itself.

sorry ment to say in my post higher up that the Rev counter works fine, but the speedo doesnt move, niether does the mileage counter.

the temp gauge and petrol gauge also works, but the petrol gauge moves when cornering, I starting to think it was the clocks, but after changing the sensor for a new one its still show as a error code when scanning.

Exactly the same as my problem did you ever get it sorted?
