Loop attenuation

Featured Replies

Recently I switched from a plusnet where I synced at 7616, and had a loop attenuation of 25dB. Now I am on LLU, but my attenuation seems to have jumped to a rather stupidly high 49dB, thus meaning I am not syncing much faster, and it also means my line is now over 32 times worse than it was before?

Initial "guesses" where the line should sync around 13mbps, not a mankly 8mbps :'(

Samknows reports my line as 0.8km long (as the crowflies), so I know it is longer than that, but I am sure it does not route to france and back!

Could the engineer who moved my line to the LLU equipment have gaffed it up?

Thanks :-)

Well it will be a combination of factors including the carrier that the ADSL2+ is running on, their equipment and the line itself.

I'd have a go at your LLU provider first and see what they come back with as their excuse.

My LLU provider says it is fine, and there are no faults on the line.

I am going to try with a variety of other routers/modems and see what figures they report, before I can I work out of a plan of action/ask for help!

Just tried with my old Cisco 837 (actually connected with it at the moment), even though it is a non ADSL2 device, is is reporting:

Ohh, right yes, well a **** router won't help :(

Looks like you might want to buy a better router if it's something you can afford.

Phone Sky this morning, and spoke to someone with brain. He immediately tweaked something and my disconnection dropped and reconnected at 15mbps. I did say I was using my own router as the Sky one was broken, so he is sending me out a new router too. I have a Vigor 2820 on order too...... :p
