Driving home from work today I suddenly got a hesitation when accelerating hard, also the engine light flashes until I ease up then goes out.

Does anyone have any clues before I send it for a diagnostic?

every time you remove a good one the idle will get worse, when you find the bad one it'll stay the same as it is now.

I think he meant that if you are getting a missfire at idle you can remove each coilpack in turn, if the engine changes (worse) then the coilpack is good if it doesn't change then you have found the duffer

if it only happens on boosting then get a VAGCOM scan to see which cylinder is missing. once you know you can swap coilpack with another, go for a run then rescan and see if fault moved with the coil, stayed on the same cylinder or stopped missing. Also worth checking your plug gaps. HTH

Had exactly the same problem tho not on a VRS. Didn't ID the issue until the coil completely went and the engine sounded like a bag of spanners. Coils come as a pack and tho I can't remember the exact cost, it wasn't too bad!!

Had two go in a week about a month a go. :'(

got them from a vw dealer £34.18 each including vat

was told to get a spare to keep in glove box just incase

on the top of the coil pack where you plug it in. there his a date stamp. mine was 33.03 (week 33 2003)

just look for the oldest it worked for me.
