VRS or Elegance 2.0?

Featured Replies

Bought the vRS as it's excellent value for money, it's fun,

But then, the 2.0 Elegance is also excellent value for money, and fun to drive...which is what this thread is about... ;)

Yes but to spec it up to vRS standard (body mods, wheels etc.) makes it the expensive choice and likely to appeal to a much smaller audience come selling time !

Why would you spec it up to vRS "standard"?!

Quite possibly - though I don't recall the original poster expressing any concern/desire for a spoiler?

Speccing it up would also involve losing the heated seats

'tis possible to get heated seats on the vRS though. Cost option, mind... ;)

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

What has this got to do with the thread?

All the man wants to know is peoples personal choice between the 1.9l Diesel vRS and 2.0l petrol Elegance model, which is a similar price, has better equipment levels and has the engine from the Mk3 (and some Mk4) Golf GTi.

If you are not bothered by the economy, go for the Elegance, it is not as much a sporting ride, but it is very comfortable. If you want something that has a bit of pace about it without looking brash, go for the vRS.

My advice is take both for a test drive and although a lot of these posts will be helpful, try to make you own mind up as people will be always biased towards their own model or preference

Its got everything to do with the thread, you need to compare like with like as far as possible in order to make a fair comparison. Besides the vRS driver is quite a different bread to your standard Fabia flat cap merchant.

Nothing quite like stereotyping, eh?

The Elegance has certain things as standard which the vRS has as cost options, whereas the vRS has certain options which are unique to it.

I would wholeheartedly agree that you should test drive both. Both are great cars probably. It's worth checking out the 1.9 Diesel version too ;)

If the cap fits robmawer....

Really, I used to own a 1.4 16v Elegance beore I got the vRS, Fab 16v had a comfort version, Devonutopia owns a 1.9 100bhp comfort. The 3 of us are 25 or under two of us had a non-vrs before, I've even had a Felicia. Non of us are flat cap merchants, drive like your grandad, or try to drive like pillocks for that matter. There is a time and place for that, and that is on one of the trackdays thare are organised on this site or in the comfort of your own home on the computer.

Hmm...well, I don't even drive a Fabia?

Best not mention the Smart, eh Rob? :gay: D'oh! ;)

Chris

well we have a fabia vrs and i used to have a mk 3 golf gti 2.0 8v.the vrs is a good looking, subtle, very nippy and economical car.it is nice to have such a car that is not garish and does overtly say"steal me". just llooks a posh litle hatch.

though i don't know the weight differences/size differences with with old golf/fabia if it is the same 115 bhp engine it really was a sore disappointment. :( .i really think that come trade in time,a 1.9tdi vrs(whatever garage) will be worth far far more than a 2.0 petrol fabia.as for driving them,my golf was nice car but the most disappointng engine i have had in a car town driving, motorways, whatever.i persevered cos it said gti on the back.vrs tdi anytime you won't be disappointed :)

Whats age got to do with it, you can still be an old fart even sub 25. My argument is very real, I return to the true cost of ownership and that's depreciation. My argument is that the vRS will appeal to second owners seeking its excellent performance etc. and that this remains a strong selling point for all makes of cars. It is only my opinion but I think time will prove that the vRS will retain proportionately more value than other Fabia's as it appeals to quite a different market segment. Apologies to all you flat cap wearers !

My argument is that the vRS will appeal to second owners seeking its excellent performance etc.

Surely the same would apply for the Octavia vRS then, for owners seeking it's size, performance, etc? As it appeals to a very different segment from the other Octavia's...

Rob.

I would agree but Octavia second hand values in general are now suffering from the introduction of the new and vastly improved Octavia which frankly makes the older model look rather dated. In contrast the Fabia has just had its mid term facelift (very minor) and remains a current and fresh model, sorry.

The Octavia had relatively poor trade-in values long before the new Octavia was even announced.

Rob.

I'm not sure that the Octavia was particularly heavily marked down in my experience. Maybe you've just got a doggy one !

Well, no, not really, I just listen to what people on here have been saying for the past two years.

But if you'd care to share your experience, please do... :)

Rob.

A close study of Glasses CAP etc. over a period of time will give you a pretty clear picture of what's going on and I can't see the Octavia being excessively hammered pricewise over the last few years.

Ah, books and websites...of course, the best way to find out what dealers are valuing cars at...

Rob.

No, that is not what I said. However the industry guides are only of any value if they accurate and they form a good starting point to form a picture of market trends etc.

But they're not accurate, so they're not a good starting point.

I would be very surprised if the Fabia vRS fairs any better at trade-in then every other diesel Fabia, and only marginally better percentagewise than petrol engines. Less well-equipped than the Elegance, and not really all the much more powerful by comparison. A couple of badges and a spoiler doesn't make it special enough to buck the trend...
