High level brake light

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my rear screen brake light as started to play up. It works intermittently with the bulb failure warning light coming on when it doesn't work. Is this a known problem? Typically, the MOT is due in a couple of weeks! Any suggestions would be welcome.

according to my manual the eye level brake light is led bulbs so a bulb failure means replacing the whole unit.

Mine's failed in the past - intermittently, for a day or two at a time, and would show up the warning about brake light failure. That also happened just days before the MOT. When I got to the MOT station, it was on a 'faulty' day, though what happened during the test I don't know. But it passed.

Did make me wonder whether the two normal brake lights were sufficient to pass, and the 3rd high-level light is just extra?

Luckily, it was the car's first MOT so was just under warranty at the time. Just! They replaced the whole unit I believe - apparently the parcel shelf needs to come out... :S

cheers

Thank you both.

I had a couple of dead moths right inside where the upper led brake light sits in the boot, and i didnt remove the parcel shelf, yes it was a bit taxing trying to remove it and still leave the parcel shelf alone, but with a bit of ingenuity and a couple of cups of tea :giggle: i did manage to remove the light and still leave the parcel shelf intact. Why insects decide to pass away in the most awkward of places i'll never know !!

you remove the led lights from inside the boot. prise it off the bracket with a screw driver.
