Looking to buy a diesel Octavia Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm looking to get a used Octavia.

I've found an '07 model on a 56 plate for £6500 with 93k on the clock. Ex fleet car. Full service history. Good nick. Sounds ok when running, not test driven yet. Had replacement Cam belt, water pump and clutch around 85k.

I do around 20k miles per year. Is this is a good deal?

Or is it worth me forking out an extra 2k for a car of similar vintage with around 35k miles on the clock?

Thanks in advance and apologies if this has been covered in previous posts. I had a bit of search, but couldn't seem to find anything exactly relevant.

Thanks,

Tim

is it the 1.9tdi or 2.0tdi, my last octavia 1.9tdi did 166k when i handed it back with no great issue's, i now have the 2.0tdi pd equiped car that is worlds apart in the performance stakes, but the 1.9 is a good solid unit, not sure if the lower mileage car is worth the extra 2k

Yep, bit more info on it needed. Also depends how long you intend keeping the car for as well.

Mileage is just one of the things to be considered really. A 35k example could have been used for all short journeys, for example - which can bring its own issues. Lower mileage doesn't always equal a better buy.

Sorry, forgot to include engine size. Looking at the 1.9 model.

I don't really know much about the cars that have done 35k, just been looking on autotrader for a comparison/see what else I could get.

I don't really want to change it again for a while really and given the mileage I do I guess it may make more sense to get something lower mileage with more life left in it?

Thanks,

Tim

That's pretty much what I'm looking into at the moment - see my thread here.

A little research yesterday found that there are 2 '06' cars on Autotrader at £4975 (138k) and £5999 (106k), and an '08' on 104k at £7179. Lower mileages at slightly higher prices.

Ebay has an '06' for £5650 (92k), and 3 x 2007 at £6795 (77k), £6950 (93k) and £9390 (45k).

My Lease company want £5600 for mine, based on an expected 102k next week - although this will in fact be delayed (again), so mileage will be higher, and price hopefully lower. I paid for a valuation on the Autotrader website, which stated that mine was worth £6350-6775 (average dealer retail), which I think is a bit optomistic.

The general view is that the PD140 should easily do 200k+ if looked after (and fleets generally do), so a higher mileage example is probably a good way to save some money on the purchase.

Last week ,I paid 7000 for 1.9 TDI Ambiente 63000 k miles 07 registration immaculate condition means no scratch ,dent or chip at all, Had full Skoda service history ; had minor teething troubles as posted .servicing was due so Had major service done and bob's your uncle...

The Engine should last 200k+, though I'd not like to place bets on the turbo being original by that point. Still, that's not the only component to consider.

By the time you get to 100k the interior stands a good chance of being a bit tired, and then there's all the mechanical components that are getting much closer to the end of their life - suspension, steering, brakes and so on.

You may be lucky and not have any issues but the likelihood of getting large bills each time it's serviced or MOTd go up quite considerably.

You say no chips etc and that mileage as well, i have done 39000 miles and even after three weeks i had chips on bonnet and now 5 years on 3 more supermarket dings on the sides and countless chips on the bonnet

I had a look at 5 octavias before i chose this one and what swung it for me was the immaculate outside and inside ,i concur with you all other cars i checked out had chips and dents though...i went in for Silver as i feel that it is better to camouflage chips and marks.. :D
