Could my day get *any* worse?

Featured Replies

finished a 3 hour A-Level exam just over an hour ago...that was the first bad thing...

Now..driving home in my freshly waxed furby...(it looked so sparkling and shiny) ****ing it down with rain...(great i thought...just what i wanted)

Come up to the A1307 dual carriageway just past Linton, outside Cambridge pootling along minding my own business, when a grey Leon Cupra R and a Porsche Boxxter come racing past (note RACING) - the carriage way had ONLY just started, anyway in their eagerness they splayed out across the two lanes, the Seat hitting the crap at the side of the road sending a great big whacking stone straight into my windscreen with an awful mettalic noise. Then quite literally before my eyes a crack appears and starts moving up from the bottom of the windscreen before taking a left and halting somewhat...its a good 7/8 inches long :finger:

At this point I was one...mildly scared, that either the entire windscreen would go (its bloody windy outside and absolutely ****ing it down cats and dogs) and two that those jerks infront would kill someone - it wasn't 'sensible' racing it was damn right stupid given the amount of standing water there is on the road at the moment.

Anyway, keep bumbling along over the hill, onto which there is then a big dip and a blind sweeping left up a second hill, cruising along about 70/75 (yet still safely, wanting to get home as quickly as possible :( due to the windscreen), only to then go skipping some standing water trying to brake for the cupra and the porsche in front who'd dropped their speeds to 50...why you may ask? As there was a fecking scamera van parked up on the blind sweeping left. IN THIS WEATHER, its just asking for a crash. People should be able to concentrate on the poor driving conditions not some ***** in a van, by having to check their speedo's every two seconds.

In short...i'm pretty certain i got a speeding ticket...and need a new windscreen and failed a A-Level all in one day...while i'm not blaming anyone but myself for the speeding part, i am very tempted to drive back to the spot where he was parked and throw some dog**** in through the little gap where the camera looks through before weeing in the guys shoes. The windscreen however i am GUTTED about, really wasn't what i needed at all.

:thumbdwn:

*not happy* I'll get a photo of the rift valley in my windscreen up a bit later.

:(

Bad things come in threes so if it's any consolation you should be OK for the rest of today. What was the speed limit when you saw the speed van?

That's a real wounder mate!Should just count yourself lucky that YOU are ok even if you Furby isn't

i don't actually know :S as they park it JUST where the dual carriage way combines back into a single lane - so i'd presume 70 or 60?? depending how you look at it. They're devious little buggers they really are

If the scamera van was parked where the road merges from D/C to S/C, then they will have been checking your speed on the D/C. As long as it was NSL, you won't have a problem if your speedo was reading 75MPH or less. Even if it was reading 80MPH, you have a good chance of getting away with it (ACPO guidelines recomment a trigger speed of 10% + 2 = 79MPH). Your speedo will almost certainly overread, so your actual speed will have been comfortably below 79MPH.

If you get do get a NIP in the post have a look at this site for info

The stuff on submitting a PACE statement looks interesting. I just got done and i'm going down that route...

Take a look at 5ive-0.com as well - pepipoo isn't universally acclaimed by the 5ive-0 members, who include a lot of coppers ....

You've not done what some other Fabia driver has done today and rolled it. ;) I reckon it could get a little bit worse for you yet. :D I reckon I would just remember, there's always exam re-sits ;) the NIP will never come, you're gonna get a nice shiney grease free screen ;) for your excess, and a nice dry Summer is on the way. Crack open a beer and think of this. :dtp:

 sorry - thanks Chris.

Nick! Can I just say your avatar bears a striking resemblance! (edit: Please don't return the complement! )

I was very.... very... very drunk!

it been tested by a few furby owners and the speedo seems to be out by about 4mph

the black line on the second photo is the crack, doesn't look that bit but its a good 8 inches long :(

I'll give churchill a ring in a bit.

Fiddlesticks. Thanks for your 'support' heh. And Jason - people seem to be making a nasty habit of rolling Fabias...

your right about the ACPO guildlines being 10% + 2MPH for speeding tickets, however most cameras and mobile speed traps are now run by the speedpartnership's which dont have to conform to ACPO guildlines,

sorry to put a dampner on it

Camerashy, a bummer of a day, but I think devonutopia's post is on the money. Also....

A quick note on accuracy of speedo. We all know speedo's overread, but my speedo overeads by quite a margin, at an indicated 78mph, GPS shows me as doing 70mph (whilst there will be some software smoothing of this, it is consistent at that speed - and in my wifes mini the difference on the same stretch of road is much less, 73 = 70 mph.). Find out the speed limit on the dual carraigeway, if there are no repeater signs, then as has been suggested already, I reckon you will be fine.

Id be interested to know how neat a job the windscreen replacement is, as Ive had a chip repaired (badly), and the whole screen really needs replacing.

Now crack open a beer, get your re-sit sorted and chill :D

RBW.

P.S. There are some idiots on the road !

ahh well. *shafted* i'll have to contest it.

But if it only happened today (10 January), then you can't possibly know that. Just sit tight for the next fourteen days (plus a few more for luck). If you don't get a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution) through the letterbox, then you are home free. Just take this as a lesson to *know* your speed, the speed limit, and the safe speed whenever you are driving. It's more than halfway to beating the speed cameras (and I'll bet you will become a better driver)
