are they really w rated

Featured Replies

the vrs tyres are they?? if so why why why it doesnt go that fast ;)

Are the tyres only used on the furby vrs?

better to over rate than under rate!!!

Just imagen that skoda put on tyres that could just cope with it's top speed and the furby suffered blow outs kill the owners. I can guess Skoda would get sued, as happen in the US with a Ford 4x4 (I think it was a ford)

I think it's because Tyre ratings isn't down to speed but down to the torque of the Engine because the high torque transfer from the engine when in gear is where the grip is needed

but this should also improve the cornering which im comfused by as thats the bad bit about the furby

so they probably sort it by speeds to make it easier to understand

yeah with the fire stone tyres.

oh i know its for my own good :( but 96 a tyres for exalto pe2's

Just for the record, I find they grip really well on my fabia (non vRS)...

The rating is the max speed that can be safely maintained for x minutes, according to the spec I think. Obviously, if you've no intention of travelling that fast, you could get away with lower rated tyres, but I believe your insurance company may have issues with that ;)

yes they would lol but but but ah sod it i will just pay for them :(

You could go for uniroyal rainsport at

i had rainspoerts on the 172 actually and found them very good

they are only v rated tho :(

V's 149mph though... I'm sure that would be enough...

Even my bog-standard (well, it was when I bought it...) Octavia Elegance came with W rated tyres as standard - so I don't think it's unreasonable for a Fabia Vrs

i just checked they are w's im sure you have to replace with the same speed rating or it can void your insurance as its not what the car was designed for.

when i looked i found 3 are w but one is v so i think i may be needinh to have a word with the dealer that sold me my car

I'm pretty sure I've seen something similar, but I can't find chapter and verse now. You might get away with a declaration to your insurers, but I wouldn't bank on it.

well im going to have words with the dealer that sold me it see if they will replace them foc ;) or cheap atleast

they'll probably say "you must have changed it........."

How do you prove otherwise?

Not saying the dealer is inheritantly dishonest, but playing Devil's Advocate, they could try and wriggle out of it (a la VW & my rusting Pastie!)

AS for ratings, I'd say V would be sufficient - the Furby's top speed isn't 149mph, it's about 130mph IIRC, so you;ve still got some headroom for safety in there.

Given I've never driven at triple figures (well, only once or twice :o and never in excess of 110, where permissable) I'm quite happy to stick with V-rated tyres. TBH, grip and handling in the wet is more important to me than any surprising headline speed ratings........

well i agree wholeheartedly about handling etc etc but i may aswell try it hehe :)

Fabia vRS tyres should be 205/45 WR16

the (W) rating is not just down to speed, it is to do with the pressure exerted on the tyre while under load, which can mean being thrown around corners as well as with a boot load of junk or a mixture of both.

right i have ordered 2x 205/45/16 w exalto 2's for 200 fitted hope they are good :s

All tyres should have a DOT code on it, this will be a 4 figure number which signifies the week and year the tyres were made. eg 4004 is 40th week of 2004. In theory all four tyres should have similar DOT codes, within weeks of each other. If all your tyres have similar DOT codes and are the same brand you should be able to convince the retailer one was fitted incorrectly. Tyres of disimilar speed ratings should not be mixed on the same axle.

I'm pretty sure I've seen something similar, but I can't find chapter and verse now. You might get away with a declaration to your insurers, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Stick to W's or higher - do not mix speed ratings on the same axle

According to mytyres, V is rated to 149, W to 168?!

The difference on there between a Rainsport V rated and W rated is

Fabia vRS tyres should be 205/45 WR16

the (W) rating is not just down to speed' date=' it is to do with the pressure exerted on the tyre while under load, which can mean being thrown around corners as well as with a boot load of junk or a mixture of both.[/quote']

It's the two digit number next to the speed rating letter that defines the tyre's load rating: (205/45 R16 83W).

The speed rating letter is an indication that the tyre can run at a constant speed (whatever speed the letter equates to) for 10 mins with-out disintergrating.

The load index relates to the weight of the vehicle. e.g. you could have tyres with the same speed rating on a Lotus Elise as on a Mercedes S Class, but the Merc will obviously require it's tyres to carry much more weight.
