Rear window washer

Featured Replies

Hello all from Dublin, Ireland.

I drive a Skoda Octavia Ambient 1.4 06 plate. The rear wiper is working but the washer part isn't. Does anyone know what the problem is and is it an easy DIY fix. Where is the pump located etc.

Also...the left window has stopped working. The motor isn't even making a noise. Again is this an easy fix?

Thanks in advance for your help. Great site by the way

Cheers

Most likely cause of no rear wash is a blocked jet.

Lift the cover at the base of the wiper arm, you will see the 2 nozzle jet. it just clips off. After removal try the rear washer without it to see if water is getting through - this also helps clear any carp in the line to stop it reblocking as soon as you put the jet back.

I find a combination of judicious broddling down the jets with fine fine wire coupled with forcing water through with a syringe does the trick.

Careful not to move the swivel nozzles (they are pretty stiff but just beware) as they are an absolute sod to realign so that having got the water to flow some of it actually hits the back window!

Thanks for that info. Just in case that doesn't work...Any ideas where the washer pump is located in the engine bay?

Hopefully the method you told me will save me taking off trims etc.

Hi

I think you will find the pump is fitted to the bottom of the reservoir itself. If you can hear the pump working and there's nothing out the back then before you go ripping that out I'd have a quick look in the boot behind the lefthand side panel. The tube from the engine bay connects there. it's a classic fault that ice will force off the pipe connection there.

I've just had the panel off mine to fit a tow bar and I found the tube had been replaced before i got the car. The original is actually burried in the wiring loom. A new tube was led from the engine bay into the firewall and through to the driver's side. Then across the car under the dash and then along the left hand sill to the boot.
