06 MY - Octavia 2 VRS Estate Tailgate Unlocks Issue

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have looked all over this site and seen a lot of threads referring to doors and tailgates locking, but I have the opposite problem.....!!

It started last weekend when we had some cold (-ve) temps over night here in Sweden and the tailgate lock had frozen (rubber pad switch would not unlock) when I pushed the button....

I tried the keyfob boot release button and the tailgate unlocked but was not fully disengaged from the latch..... I then pushed the tailgate back down into the locked position and the lock engaged.

Once the temps rose, I noticed the tailgate starting to open by itself. When I unlocked the car with the keyfob, I noticed the tailgate would intermittently unlock , as if I have remotely unlocked it from

my keyfob.(which I hadn't) If I try to shut the tailgate repeatedly it just pops and reopens itself within a second of shutting.....

When I investigated a bit further, I lubricated the lock mechanism to stop it freezing and it seemed to go away for a day or two, but has just come back again. I also noticed when I pressed the rubber pad switch a few times it would resolve it for about 10-20 secs and then reopen .........at the moment I have to drive with the tailgate unlocked and open, which as you can imagine is not ideal....

As I drive, I can hear the lock mechanism working as if its trying to pop the tailgate....!!

When I lock the car, I just lock as normal and then close the tailgate and it locks automatically, so at least its secure from a security point of view.

With process of elimination, I believe its not the motor /connecting rod or the solenoid as the mechanism works, so assuming its a sensor or switching issue??

Has anyone else had or heard of this issue and what was the cure........a new door switch on the cards???

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.....

Pradster....
