Speaker upgrade.

Featured Replies

Has anyone upgraded their standard speakers to better ones? I was wondering what size they where and if there was a optional extra kit when the car was new avabile? i.e Bose.etc.

Cheer would be grateful for replys.

I was going to when a couple of my speakers popped but ended up replacing them with standard equipment, which is blaupunkt if memory servers me.

Original units are pop rivited in so get ready to drill them out. The guide posted above is pretty decent though, should be all you need.

I have seen on ebay pre-fabricated MDF doughnuts you can mount to inner skin to then mount your speakers in. Cant remember for sure but I think 17cm speakers just dont quite line up with exisiting mounting holes (or at least a set of Pioneers speakers I dummy fitted.)

You can also get wire harness adapters from ebay if you plan to go back to OEM when you shift the car on.

Ain't really any need, I had a 50x50w unit hooked up to mine, and on full pelt they still sounded good, back window used to look like it was going to fall out though.

I have done aftermarket stereo installations on previous cars (Japanese cars OEM stereos are as a rule of thumb abysmal) using Alpine head units and Infinity speakers, with very nice results.

However, I find the standard stereo in my Superb Elegance absolutely sweet, and I would have to spend hundreds to get it any better, and even then I would probably only notice the difference when the car is stationary, so pretty pointless. Maybe the fact the first owner was an older gentleman and probably never played them loud might have something to do with it. Not sure if lower spec models have lower spec stereo, but mine is really nice.

I think the speakers are the same across the range. Same speakers as a Mk5 golf....

TBH the only car ive heard a better OEM system was a Lexus IS 220.

Ah, yes, Lexii (?) are nice cars. Almost went for a GS430, but baby seat would not fit in the back LOL so then went looking at LWB S320 cdi and V6 Superbs. The rest is history LOL...

I used to have an audi A4 with the optional Symphony system - although good, nowhere near as good as the Superb.

Haha Lexii, to qoute Alan Partridge. mmm LWB s320, bet the supurb was cheaper though.

yes, loved the S320cdi, BUT as you say a bit more expensive, HOWEVER within the first month of ownership of the Superb I required a set of glow plugs plus a new cylinder head (as two sheared off - thank you Bosch garage), so £2000 down the drain and basically I could have had a S320cdi! However, that could have also gone wrong, air suspension, etc etc... But touch wood the Superb has been reliable since, and I have done 14k miles in 6 months.

Are you going for a head unit upgrade as well? Be interested to know if you are getting something that integrates with the steering wheel controls
