Alas the problem with the starter motor wire has happened to me.

Was taking rubbish to the tip , went to leave and nothing, could not get the car to start.

Luckily there was a garage round the corner , they towed it to their garage and we bump started it.

Soon as i got home, tried again, the car would not start...

So decided to remove battery, battery holder etc and looking down towards starter motor there was the culprit!

The dreaded starter motor wire of death!

Out with the soldering iron, i soldered on a longer piece of wire and then soldered it to the inside of the plastic connector.

All back together now and working.

Thanks to the information on Briskoda ive saved myself a large bill!

They thought it was a faulty starter motor, all the time something was niggling me in the back of my head... briskoda, read about a faulty wire.. could that be the cause?

Anyway decided not to leave car at garage, quote for replacing starter motor was between £180 - £440 , they needed to find out which one it needed.

Had my daughter with me and decided to just go home.

on my W reg octavia i had a problem with the reversing light switch, needle lift sensor on the no.3 injector, and some wiring near the injection pump, all were vibration related wiring issues, the insulation of some wires was worn through until they shorted, others the wires simply broke

i have started to see similar issues on my 07 roomster (admittedly it has 133k miles) but when vehicles reach high milage they all suffer these sort of issues

Mines only on 38k though!

More time stood around with water making things rust away instead of drying out being driven ;) (unless it was garaged).

No it was on 7k when i bought it 2 years ago, used daily for work.

What had happened is the wire had come away because of the poor design, not enough length of cable so it eventually pulls away from the starter motor.

After reading on here i see its happened to a lot of people.

I've had the reverse light problem on an A3. Same issue- it was too short.
