Columbus versions

Featured Replies

Can anyone explain to me what the different Columbus versions are?

I have a 2008 pre-FL Octavia II with an Audience mp3 head unit in, and I am looking at either a Bolero or Columbus second-hand to replace it. As Columbus units don't seem much more than the Boleros, I am seriously interested in one, but there seems to be a lot of revisions, and I'm not sure which will work in my car, or the differences between them.

Specifically, I am looking at a 3T0 unit for my Octy.

Update: Looks as though I need a 1Z0 unit for my car?

For a pre facelift octy you want a 1Z0 unit really, however if you dont have steering wheel controls or maxidot display then you can use a 3T0 unit.

Avoid 1Z0 - it is obsolete and Skoda/VW do not support it in newer firmwares. Look for 3T0 instead, with little modifications it will work fine in your car.

I have maxidot and steering controls, and I thought these didn't work with a pre-FL Octavia?

Could you point me at the information needed to make a 3TO work?

Thanks.

Search for "PQTABLE / SKTABLE swap" or use already pre-modified firmware like 1300 A/B/C for Skoda.

So, if I upgrade the firmware using the instructions on vwnavi.com, a 3T0 unit will work with directions in the maxidot and steering wheel controls?

I also have a Pre FL Octavia and I'm looking to put a Columbus in. I have maxidot but no steering wheel controls. So, does the Columbus need modifying to get it to work on my maxidot in my car?

Yes, 3T0 Columbus in pre-FL Octavia needs to be upgraded with a modified firmware.

Well, I'm stumped!

I received my Columbus today, and fitted it. It worked, but no integration with MSFW or multidot, so I coded 37 into the Can Gateway with VCDS, and burnt the firmware linked to here to DVD and tried upgrading. All appears to go well, and I leave it slowly counting down. I come back later and the DVD is ejected, but it says SWL loading error. Because the error count is too high, it requires a reset. I believe this is done by pressing the 2 top left buttons and the far right button, all in line with the DVD slot? It comes back with the error again.

I have now burnt 3 DVDs on 2 machines (all verified), with the same results :'(

I am now wondering if I will have a flat battery in the morning?

Here's the info from VCDS:-

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

BTW, does the above mean I have version P of the CAN gateway, and how does that relate to the battery drain issue?

Also, does the Columbus Part number mean I have revision A of the hardware, and can I update that to 1300 firmware?

Thanks for any help!

Use a CDR to burn the firmware, I always do and never have any problems.

If you used the link in this thread for the firmware battery drain should not be a problem as its version 1300 which does not have the problem. Version P should be ok anyway.

I tried a CDR and had used the car first today, so it was nice and warm. I didn't get any media errors, and babysat the process through.

It all looked to be going so well, but when it got to the Gateway update, I think it flashed up '202 gateway error' briefly, before asking to be reset.

I am using the version 1300 from the link in this thread.

So, things are improving, and I didn't have a flat battery  just need to figure out what this error means I need to do.

I bought it from someone on here. The seals appeared intact, and it came with a card with the serial number and code that looks like it is a Skoda card.

I'll try the recovery CD.

Thanks for the quick reply.

i have 3to columbus in my 07 octy just done a firmware update :thumbup::thumbup:

Sounds good Dan - i need to try this - did you use the 1300 image linked above or another mate?!?

Really scared of bricking my columbus guys!

Phew!

I ran Josi's recovery CD, and everything is back to how it was when I started. Unfortunately, this means it doesn't work with the MFD or MFSW.

Am I right in thinking that it cannot be upgraded, because of the 202 gateway error, and that this error is caused by an eeprom being messed with because it's stolen?

In which case, I need to return it.

Or... Is there another way to get it working with MFD/MFSW?

i had a disk senr o me by a member witch i just put into the columbus 3to and that got the msfw working. just waiting for my mate to get vcds to get the nav working on the maxidot.

Things are getting a little better!

On the way home the navigation seemed to find itself, and just for the heck of it I held in the setup button and got the hidden menu, which reported version 1304. So Josi's recovery disk may have saved me

I just need to figure out how to get MFD and MFSW to work. I guess those are coding issues? I have bought VCDS, but it's new to me. I coded in satnav (37) last night, but I guess there's more to it than that?

No, unfortunately it is not a coding issue. To get MFSW/Maxidot to work you must be able to update a gateway part of RNS-510 with different software. If this update fails on your unit, you have no other choices.

Thanks for all your help and advice Josi. I shall return the unit for a refund, and try and find a unit I know hasn't been tampered with.

Does anyone have a trusted source for these things?

That sounds like your software version yes (very old one).

It all depends on the HW version and part number of your unit.

Also if you update to a new one you will also need to reinstall your maps and music on the HDD.

Depending which version of unit you have will determine what software version can be installed.
