suspension recomentdations?

Featured Replies

Hi, firstly can i apologise to everyone reading this, im brand new to the skoda world. I have been fans of VWs and classic brit cars for years but finially to the plunge and bought a Fab VRS mk1 (03) a few months back. I know very little about the technical side of cars, but i do know one thing, I LOVE MY CAR. its great fun and easy on the eyes. anyway to the point! i bought some octavia VRS alloys for my vrs as the tyres all needed changing and i had seen some Fabia VRS's with octavia VRS alloys on and thought i must have them! so i bought some and fitted them but have noticed that when taking ridgeds fast they have a habit of bottoming out a little on the wheel arches. any idea what suspension set up (cost, difficulty to fit) to go for to stop this happening and preferably drop the car a little as it stands a little taller on the bigger wheels. im not bothered about ride comfort, hence tougher and lower suspension, but i am on a tight budget and dont know much about fitting new suspension.

thanks in advance for any help/advice/insults! :)

Rob. - once again apologies for being a total newb

The diameter of the Octy 17" wheels with the Octy tyres is wrong. You need 215/40/17 tyres to stop the arches rubbing. The car may have had mods in the suspension dept. before you bought it also affecting the rubbing issue, so you to find out if all is OE or not. The Eibach Sportline ones are the best quality springs and will lower the car about 25mm. Its the most poular mod on this forum so you can't go wrong with them. There are other springs of course that are cheaper, lower but ride quality and handling are then affected.

Ive just looked and they appear to be 205/50/17, so are you saying if i get 215/40/17 tyres on the wheels itll probably stop the rubbing (excuse my ignorance) and will they appear to be lower profile then?

Do Eibach do springs thatll lower the car but also be stiffer so the wheels cant move up as much and rub?

sorry im a tad clueless

Yes, you got the idea. 205's or 215' will be ok.
