steering wheel shake at different speeds and when accelerating.

Featured Replies

got a bit of a stearing wheel shake at high speads. normally with unbalanced wheels its at a certain spead but this seams a bit intermittant. plus it shakes more when accelerating? is this just a case of ballancing the wheels ya think or somethin more sinister?

I'd start with wheel balancing and a suspension alignment/geometry check, and go on from there.

Judder when accelerating sounds like a flywheel issue to me, but it depends exactly what kind of judder you mean really!

na its not fly wheel judder, i get that when im not concentrating and floor it in 6th!! lol

Oky doke. Get the wheels checked first then, and see where you are then.

that i will do asap.

You could try swapping the wheels front to back to see if that makes any difference - if your front wheels have gone out of balance, or one of the tyres has gone faulty (out of shape perhaps) the vibration should then come from the rear of the car.

Any wear on tyres? If they're scalloped suspect shock absorbers.

just had them ballanced but still gettin the judder when accelerating 70+

i'd check the tyre wear

mine were all balanced but due to being about ready to be replaced they wobbled like crazy at dual carriageway speeds

new rubber and no more wobble

Have a look at your front wishbone bushes - when they go knackered they can give a vauge feel to the steering and shaking at different speeds.

Shakes more under acceleration because the knackered bushes allow big geometry changes.

tyres only have about 1000 miles on them. think i might need to book it in for a full geometry check
