Hi everyone

I have been asked by the Skoda garage for £ 350 to replace an EGR valve in my octavia 1.6 FSI (includes diagnostics, new EGR and labour) ...is this nominal or excessive ? Also they claim that this valve cannot be opened and thus has to be replaced ??

There are other posts on this site about cleaning EGR valves, is that not for this particular engine model ??

I beleieve the valve internals can be cleaned. But the valve actuator is a sealed unit that can't be accessed. £350 sounds very excessive though. How much is the part?

They didn't say ...but the diagnostics are about 90 and the labour....so i guess the part might be 100-200 pounds !!

the valve itself costing about 165 pounds, I have changed mine myself in a golf 1.6fsi - I had the same answer from vw garage. easyjob!

I have a hand held vacuume pump so when the valve is off you can operate it. i am assuming it is vacuum operated on yours it very easy to clean like this as well
