Where does 1.8Tsi redline?

Featured Replies

Hi

Does anyone know when the rev limiter kicks in?

Thanks

Andy

Only one way to find out....... :wait: let it run in first! :giggle:

Why would you want to go to the limiter the peak power will be below the limiter.

Around 6800rpm, but there is no logic to go beyond 5.500 rpm as power band is 1,500-4,500. 5000-5500rpm once a month to keep it in shape.

Unless you have a remap! I've had mine to 7,000 once but never had it on the limiter. Mine keeps pulling quite eagerly over 6,000 but in reality I hardly ever get this high, even when driving spiritedly.

In S mode and foot to the floor acceleration my DSG version changes up at 6500rpm.

Rev counter red zone starts at 6000rpm but if you look carefully the red markings seem to get a little heavier around 6500.

Edit

Closer examination of the rev counter - the red marks are every 200rpm from 6000 to 7000 then every 100rpm from 7000 to 8000

Thats what I thought too :-) If the DSG in sport mode changes there then I guess thats a good amount not to exceed....

Thanks for all the replies!

Red line in 2nd gear takes you to over 60 and pretty damn quick too. Just over 7 secs? to 60. Phenomenal engine in an understated car.

Just bear in mind that when I said the DSG changes at 6500 that was an approximation - it is in the red zone. With the 1.8 TSi in sport mode and foot to the floor the last thing you are doing is examining the rev counter to see what the exact revs are :rofl: There was, however, no indication of hitting the rev limiter.

Apart from that your eyeballs are pushed a couple of mm further into your skull so focussing becomes difficult and you can't hear the engine for the whoops of delight :rofl:

Also I have only done it the once! When I wondered "what does "S" do?" - I only had 150 miles on the clock so I thought I should ease off for a thousand miles or 2. I have this pleasure to wait for ;)
