Help needed with engine problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping you can help me with a bit of a problem on a 2005 1.6 FSi Octy II. I bought the car about 3 months ago with 60k on the clock. The ECU light came on within a day and has done so from time to time over the last few months. The problem was always reported as "mis-fire on cylinder 3" and it's had a new set of plugs, new coil on c3 and a new injector. All this was under warranty and now (thankfully the light hasn't come on.

However, it's sill a bit lumpy on tickover and at 2300 revs (50 mph in fifth). It also appears to mis-fire when taking the foot off the accelerator when going downhill, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas what else could be wrong as it would be great to resolve it before the warranty runs out.

Thanks,

AndyG

Does anyone have any advice out there? It's really frustrating having the problem. BTW forgot to mention that the power isn't great going up hills at motorway speeds. Is this normal on the 1.6 FSi?

As the problem has been reported whilst its in warranty. The dealer are aware and will still be liable for fixing it even when the warranty runs out. Have any new fault codes appeared, as not all fault codes bring the engine management light on.

I personally would plumb for having the other coilpacks changed or get someone with vagcom or VCDS to run some data logs for you. That should show where the mis-fire is coming from?

It's not a dealer warranty and the local garage aren't really geared up for this. Also, I don't have access to a VAGCOM so don't know what the error codes are. I'll try and get that sorted but I've noticed it seems worst when decellerating. Thanks for the reply either way. :)

Check on this site for a member who has a vagcom near you , there are 3 members listed in Cardiff with Vagcom
